There is too much talent on this team to be playing the awful, horrible baseball we are playing now.I guess that was another “fine job” coaching.I am to the point now that every men’s team coach at Troy needs to be fired, the whole program looks settled with mediocrity or worse.Fire the AD and get someone who will clean house and change the whole attitude of the school. Our women’s teams play with fire and guts, our men’s teams don’t even look like they care to be there half the time.

I agree on baseball and football. Cross has used up all his "Get Off The Hot Seat For Free" coupons and needs to produce next season.
This might be better in the Troy Athletics board but I'll leave that up to the mods.

Who are you gonna get if you fire Scott Cross? You're either going to get: A) Another Phil Cunningham that loses almost every year. B) Get a stepping stone coach that turns Troy into a winning program, only for him take the next big gig, and then Troy is back at square one because over half of the roster will transfer out. Troy is better off sticking with Cross for at least a couple more years, and hope he can build it up enough to start winning consistently. He's not the type to leave Troy in the dust if he becomes successful.

But as far as I'm concerned it's gonna start getting warmer next year if he can't get above .500.

Ok, so. Fire the AD and hire one who will change the whole attitude of Troy University? Good luck on that. Seems an AD just doesn’t have that authority here, or anywhere else.

I am disappointed with the results of the baseball team and of course the football! Next year(21-22) without Covid will be the deciding year for Football and Baseball and we will see how much decision making ADBJ will have! I think Basketball has a little longer to prove themselves! I am happy that our Lady Trojans have represented us well! I hope ADBJ can get Rigby an extension!

Football has already been decided to me at least. As long as Uncle Fester is the head coach, I will not buy season tickets. I am debating whether or not I would accept a free tag along ticket. I still love Troy and tailgating under the oak trees is a special time, but I cannot condone the destruction of a winning team, winning culture, and successful program of building men.

I honestly don't know. I know USC is a P5 opponent, but the schedule gets tougher on the back end in my opinion. Driving home the last couple of seasons has been tough. I get 2 hours of just being angry. When GHCNB lost, it didn't feel as demoralizing as it does with Fester.

Try driving 7 hours home when we lose. It sucks but Iâm still going ! Iâm going to support the players and the University! When I refer to AD BJ having a defining year coming up I mean that he will have several scenarios to consider in regards to football! 1. Poor start to the season and bear rising loss in SC 2. A seven win season 3. 10 or 11 wins
All of these will make his job extremely difficult!
Scenario 1 Hopefully leases to a early dismissal. And a new HC Scenario 2. Who knows? Scenario 3 (The HC we don’t speak of). Leaves for another school or gets a 1 year extension !

Fire (The HC we don’t speak of) mid-season and start picking up the pieces and start the coaching search early. 2. Like I've said before and will say a thousand more times, the winning season that kills the program if it gets him an extension. Too little, too late. We'll still have an overall losing record and abysmal conference record. Fire him at the end of the season.
3. (The HC we don’t speak of) still has an overall losing record and losing SBC record. I promise that the next season would be 5-7 or worse. The apologists will start crying about loss of talent and we'll be right back to square one with ChipDip. Fire him.

Hey! Take this conversation to a football thread, I clicked here expecting y'all to fire a baseball coach? Well, the original post was about firing the coaches of the big 3 men's sports and the AD. I also suggested a move to the athletics board.

LOL... I just can't anymore.
We just lost a series to Georgia State. GEORGIA STATE.
To make it even worse, Troy was winning 15-10 in the 8th inning today... and GSU scores 7 runs to win 17-15.
What a joke. Pitching coach needs to be shown the door.

What a joke. Pitching coach needs to be shown the door. Get on the phone and get him. Listed as one of the top young baseball coaches in the country. Lance Rhodes was introduced as the eighth head coach of Saluki Baseball on June 20, 2019. Rhodes came to SIU after serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Missouri. "This is a big day for our baseball program," SIU's Director of Athletics Jerry Kill said introducing Rhodes. "We landed a proven guy and a great fit in Lance Rhodes. You talk to a lot of candidates who have specialized, but he has coached everything in baseball. He has done it all. In the hierarchy of young coaches, he was one of the most sought-after assistants in the country. He brings a lot of things to the table, but the No. 1 thing: He can flat-out recruit. That's a big part of being successful, and he's had great success at every place he's been." In Rhodes first season at SIU, the Salukis went 12-6 in the shortened 2020 season and were named the MVC's surprise team by D1Baseball. He also signed the nation's No. 10 junior college recruiting class. Rhodes guided SIU to a win over USC in 2020 and a five-game winning streak at the end of the season. Offensively, SIU led the MVC in batting average, hits, walks, doubles, on-base percentage, and stolen bases. The Salukis ranked among the national leaders in stolen bases (fourth), walks (14th), doubles (16th), and hits (17th). Ian Walters led the MVC in hits, doubles, stolen bases, assists and on-base percentage; and Evan Martin was named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball. Defensively, SIU was also outstanding in 2020, leading the MVC in fielding percentage and double plays. The Salukis turned 18 double plays in 18 games, which ranked ninth nationally. SIU committed only 12 errors in 18 games, and its .982 fielding percentage led the MVC and ranked 15th nationally. "My family and I are beyond excited to join SIU and the Carbondale community, and I want to thank Coach Kill for entrusting me with this storied program," Rhodes said. "Our staff will be dedicated to student-athlete success academically, socially and athletically. Our program will be committed to disciplined thoughts and actions in our pursuit of Missouri Valley Conference championships." Rhodes has led turnarounds at Southeast Missouri and Missouri in the last seven years. After Rhodes arrived at SEMO in 2013 with head coach Steve Bieser, the Redhawks won three-straight Ohio Valley Conference championships from 2014-16, culminating in an OVC Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016. In Rhodes' final three years in Cape Girardeau, SEMO went 112-64 (.636) overall and 67-23 (.744) in the OVC. Three of SEMO's five 35+ win seasons all-time came under Rhodes, including a school-record 39 wins in 2016. In Rhodes first season at Mizzou in 2017, the Tigers won 36 games, the most for the program since 2008. In Rhodes' three seasons at Mizzou, the Tigers won at least 34 games each year, the most for the program over a three-year span since 2006-08. Mizzou also won 39 total SEC games in that span, the most successful conference stretch since it joined the SEC prior to the 2013 season. Mizzou earned spots in the national top-25 polls every season, reaching as high as No. 18 nationally in 2018. A proven recruiter, Rhodes has earned national recognition for his recruiting classes at Mizzou, pulling in top-35 ranked classes in each of his three seasons. His 2019 recruiting class was ranked No. 17 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball. Rhodes has also developed that talent into highly successful players, coaching three OVC Pitchers of the Year, two conference players of the year, 28 MLB draft picks, two Freshman All-Americans and two Academic All-Americans — all in the last 10 years. He has worked with both pitchers and hitters and seen dramatic improvements in both. While Rhodes served as pitching coach at SEMO, the Redhawks the OVC in opponent batting average twice (2015, 16), strikeouts (2015), walks allowed (2016), wins (2016), and double plays three times (2013, 14, 15). When Rhodes flipped to working with hitters at Mizzou, the Tigers saw dramatic jumps in batting average (by 13 points), home runs (by 21), doubles (by 22), slugging percentage (by 53 points), walks (by 42), on-base percentage (by 15 points), stolen bases (by 12) and fielding percentage. Rhodes played at Saint Louis (2005-06) and Southeast Missouri (2007-08) and earned his bachelor's degree from SEMO in 2008. He earned a master's degree from Emporia State in 2010. Rhodes and his wife, Brittney, have three sons, Max, Cooper and Hank. Rhodes agreed to a five-year contract worth $130,000 annually. WHAT THEY'RE SAYING ABOUT COACH RHODES "Coach Rhodes is a terrific hire for the Salukis. He is one of the top recruiters in the country, as well as one of the best baseball minds I have been around. His passion, energy and work ethic will be contagious. I am excited to watch him tear it up in Carbondale." - Steve Bieser, Missouri Head Baseball Coach "Lance Rhodes is an amazing person with an even better family. He happens to be a great baseball coach, too. Lance can recruit and teach, and that will lead to a lot of wins. I'm excited for him, his family, and the SIU baseball program." - Dillon Lawson, New York Yankees Hitting Coordinator "In this search, Coach Kill did an outstanding job identifying several of the brightest young coaches in college baseball. Lance has an outstanding background and has worked under one of the truly great college baseball coaches in the country in Steve Bieser. Lance is energetic and a people person. In some ways, he reminds me of Itchy Jones, who was the best coach I have ever been around. I get that vibe from Lance. He cares about players, the program, and the university. As a Saluki, I could not be happier with this hire." - Mark Newman, SIU Hall of Famer ('00) and former New York Yankees Senior VP, Baseball Operations "Lance is what I'd consider to be a terrific hire for SIU. Lance accomplished big things during his time at SEMO with Coach Bieser, and established himself as an obvious successful evaluator with strong recruiting acumen. He carried that approach over to Missouri, where he guided the Tigers to one of the nation's best recruiting classes in 2018 and did a strong job as an assistant. Lance will know what's needed to put SIU on the national map." - Kendall Rodgers, Co-Managing Editor, D1Baseball Hampton Inn MarionToyota Banterra Orthopaedic institute logo Vic Koenig Logo Lee's Vogler Motor Company McAlister's

Hawkins in the 90's and early 2000's wanted to win. IMO now he is at the end of the line and is more concerned about buildings to leave as his leagacy. Truly sad when our top sports teams are women's BB and tennis

Hawkins is a great guy... but it's time for someone new to lead Troy University. The fact that the university's graduation rate this year was behind Alabama State, Alabama A&M, West Alabama, Stillman College, JSU, and Judson College... says MUCH... and this has always been a problem. I believe Troy has a poor and stagnant academic model under Hawkins.

My son started at Troy for a year in Computer Programing (it was a joke) transfered to UCF and now works in NYC overseeing the computer programmers for a large corporation there. My daughter graduated with a Biomedical Science degree from Troy (Biology Dept is sorely lacking). Troy is great for Business, Education and Music but is sorely lagging in Tech and Medical with the exception of nursing.
