I 100% agree on the need for the field house. I don't know the behind the scenes monetary aspect of the school. If true then it is shameful beyond words. If not then I can't critique a administration for not spending money it doesn't have. I do agree with you on Dennis dropping the ball. He was a poor AD and bailed before the poop hit the fan ( being polite). He kicked the can down the road for someone else to worry about. Now we are behind and playing catch up when we were out front and had our chance to capatilize. I firmly believe had Hartwell been AD during this run we would have had the field house now and would have championship caliper teams across all sports. I'm not saying he was a bad AD. Quite the contrary. My point is that WE didn't help him a whole lot. At one point, TROY saw success without "putting in on it" and that was shame on us. Now that others in our league are ponying up, we're still expecting to win without the money. We set the standard on the gridiron without much if any donations. So, to catch up with us, people started throwing money at their problems and look what happened. We, as a fanbase, are behind and it's going to take longer than 2015 to catch up. With that said, that building should be going up way before then.

This goes to some things that Hartwell has really been making a very good effort on. 1) improving the TW program and doing events like he did last year. Trying to get existing TW more involved and giving them insight into his vision. 2) the former coaches/players football reunion this spring. This was brlllant in that it gave every time period, from the 50's on up a chance to feel special and involved. This can only help down the road. 3) his use of YouTube and other avenues to keep us informed. i know the Alumni association had a Facebook presence and a enrollment push on Facebook. Perhaps we could do the same with the TW program and put a clip on it on YouTube. Anything and everything we can to help. This project won't get funded by those of us contributing now but be those who we need to reach to get this finished.

That may bear fruit down the road, but that is from the cause/effect of the trying to do more with less mentality. It is a great thing for the AD to attempt to generate more interest, but my point continues to be that not much, if anything, was done to catapult the program when the time was right. 5 championships in a row, you telling the kids coming in that they'll be out of that old fieldhouse before you graduate...WE missed that boat, but the admin was like, "eh, we did it without that building, we can duplicate that without putting up the money...let the TW program pay for it..." You'd better think back when you were talking about what other teams were doing in baseball and softball...they have much better fan support. Since we don't quite measure up to that right now in football, the management better write that check to get this thing started or we'll be perpetually looking up like north texas was...

Whats done is done, the mistake has been made. How do we fix it?? If the administration has the money to fix this and doesn't then there is no excuse. If we don't have the funds?? I don't know the answer short of one of us winning the lottery or Bill Gates suddenly becoming a Troy fan. The question is do we have the funds or not?? From everything I have heard, we don't. How we get them, when we are talking millions?? I don't have an answer. Evidently the higher ups don't either or we would be breaking ground or had it built. We are looking up at a lot of programs right now and not just football. We had football at .500 and every other sport at .400 or worse. A lot of work has to be done and it's a crying shame we let it get to this.

You both are right on a lot of of points you make. Here's the deal on Steve Dennis. He didn't connect very well with the little people at Troy, like Hemi Man. He had his eyes set on nailing down that major donor that could push the athletic department over the top. That never happened. He never realized the importance of the $100-$2500 donor and what they could do to build Troy Athletics. He never capitalized on Troy's winning and we have been left behind by many of our conference mates because of that. We have the number of alumnus to support they programs, we just do not have the numbers that are willing to support, and be the backbone of the athletic department. We don't have a T Boone Pickens. It's doubtful that we ever will. What we do have is a lot of successful graduates and fans that, if we can get them to buy in, can make a huge collective impact on the direction and pace of the programs growth. It's a much tougher job now than when Steve was in charge. Fortunately I think we have the man in place that can do it. John get the need for the $100 guy and the $350,000 guy. You don't approach those guys in the same way and he knows that.
As for people up the hill, there are a few that handcuff the athletic departments growth for various personal reasons. Until some changes happen up there it's going to be tough to grow at the pace we all want to see the program grow. We can't do much about those people, but us as Warriors and fans can promote the program to friends and other alums that have distanced themselves from their alma mater.
I think I'll have a beer.

@john_hartwell: Proud & blessed to be a Troy Trojan! Nice to have interest from others, but my commitment is 110% to Troy. It is great to be a Troy Trojan!
I think I'll have a beer.
