Everybody calm down... Losing to #18 BYU like this wasn't totally unexpected. We were outsized from the get-go. They've got bigger lines than most P5 schools. Their RB's are bigger. Their WR's are bigger. Their LB's are bigger. They've got an NFL draft-pick at QB. BYU is most likely going to finish undefeated and in the Top 10... might even go to the playoff if things shake out well for them. We match up well with the rest of the schedule... in both size and speed, and that's including App State and Louisiana. So what? We've beaten bigger and better. We've played better teams closer and made no excuses. What's changed? True, but Silvers was an experienced QB when we upset LSU and the OL was much more experienced than our current O-line. When Sawyer Smith started for the first time Neal Brown couldn’t even beat Liberty. This was Watson’s second career start against one of the best teams in the country (and he played behind a relatively young OL which needs more experience). I think we’ll be fine and finish with a winning record.

I think weâll be fine and finish with a winning record. It's still just making excuses. Last year the excuse was that (The HC we don’t speak of) was a first year head coach so we should have expected to have a losing record. Granted, I had no expectations for this game and think we would have lost even under the Brown staff. However, it was a pathetic showing, even for an expected loss. But if the first words out of (The HC we don’t speak of)'s mouth are, "We obviously didn't have the players ready for this game and we were outplayed and out coached" and not "They were bigger than us and we really couldn't be expected to do well. It's not my fault" we'll at least call that progress. I do actually have faith he's learned that lesson. That said, I'll be surprised if we're 6-6. (The HC we don’t speak of) took this job because he thought he wouldn't have to put any real effort in because of how well the quick rebuild went and that he'd be gone after a season. I'm not convinced he knows what to do now that he has to actually work at producing a good team.

We've played better teams closer and made no excuses. What's changed? Actually, if you go look back, the LSU and Nebraska teams we beat were a little smaller overall than this BYU team. And like someone else said, we had a capable QB in Brandon Silvers delivering precision strikes against LSU. LSU was also missing their star RB and best defensive player that game. And then against Nebraska, we had Kaleb Barker who didn't play well at all, but he played well enough to move the chains when we really needed to. Nebraska was also playing their inexperienced backup QB, who was terrible.. To expect Gunnar Watson to have sliced and diced BYU is pretty crazy. He's no Silvers or Barker. He's not to that level yet. Our defense was out on the field almost all game.

Next up is USA, Texas State, and Eastern Kentucky... all of which are definitely beatable.
Let's see how we do in that stretch of games before we start calling for changes again.

Do you watch college football much?BYU team is G5 ELITE.When the HC of BYU says this is his best team then you can bet they are stacked. They were longer faster and more athletic at EVERY SINGLE POSITION.They will steam roll the G5 and all but the top tier SEC schools.
I am concerned with the QB hesitant play but confidence will come.Im also concerned about how open receivers were sometimes which rests on our DC/HC.
The fact was we were outclassed just like Navy was and the other G5 schools coming to Provo.
Throw in a couple years of maturity per player due to mission requirement and it is what it is.
That team wasn’t a Boise State, they are better.
I have a feeling we will be miraculously better next game!

I'm also concerned about how open receivers were sometimes which rests on our DC/HC. THIS!!!!!!! I am pleased to announce that the sun did rise this morning over the State of Alabama. The five to ten yard cushion that was given to all of their receivers last night looked like we were set up to play prevent defense ALL NIGHT. We have already lived through that previously. With the players we have on defense this year, let them get in their faces and show that they have been in the weight room. IF they get beat on occasion or knocked on their tush, that is better than the pitch and catch we watched ALL last night. I am going to go enjoy that sunrise now

Yes, we played like the inexperienced players on the road that we are. BYU is going to destroy a lot of teams this year. Like they said let’s see how we bounce from this.

Shall we not forget that in week one of the season, the SBC went 3-0 over XII? Our conference is made of killers and Troy started it all at Clemson back in '16. Our awww shucks only conference titles matter attitude will get us killed by the programs in our conference that want to be P5 caliber teams. You punch through your opponent, not to your opponent.

This is probably the best BYU team in decades + BYU players are mentally and physically generally more mature than most CFB players (most BYU players are probably 24-26 years old) and very disciplined.

You are high sir. This BYU team is average and they will look good all year because they play below average teams. SEC Championship? Not even close. We are terrible. Fundamentally terrible.

It was a lazy hire by an AD who knew he was out the door shortly after... I love Brent Jones to death, but he needs to make the right call for the program if the (The HC we don’t speak of) Ship continues to sink. I can assure you Brent isnât afraid to make the tough decisions. Ultimately though nothing gets done without Hawkins approval.

So we can't hang with good teams. We knew this last year and looks like we're right back at the same spot. We'll do better against South, obviously, because they're mediocre at best. We should beat ULM and our FCS opponent. And Middle. We'll curb stomp them again just for fun. So that's four wins, at the very least. Maybe we will get to six if the wind blows just right.

Sorry to say this. Will probably be unpopular. But I don't think Gunnar Watson is as good of a QB as he is being made out to be. Following the MTSU blowout, everyone in the media kept saying he's a big-time slinger... but he doesn't have nearly the velocity, accuracy, or read progressions that Kaleb Barker had. Yeah, Watson completed 70% of his passes against MTSU... but it was a very conservative game plan. Against BYU, Watson has also missed some wide open WR's when he's had time, and instead dumped it off to the RB. Reggie Todd was open 25 yards down field and Watson didn't even look at him. Kaylon Geiger smoked a guy down the right sideline and got nothing... it would've been a TD had Watson thrown it. It's like he's afraid to take some deep shots. Give your 6'4" and 6'5" WR's a chance!! We had a long run of very talented quarterbacks. Levi, Corey and Brandon were extremely talented and played a lot of football. Itâs too early to dismiss Gunnar. Iâm not a big fan of (The HC we don’t speak of), but he is a very good quarterback coach. I think we will be just fine at that position. We will learn a lot over the next few months if he is going to be a successful as a head coach. Itâs obvious that this staff is not as good as the previous staff. There were a lot of veteran coaches that Neal hired. This staff has a bunch of young guys that may or may not turn out to be great coaches. Time and wins and losses will tell the tale.
