My frustrations are numerous so I'll just lay it out here:
1. Administration (not athletic) - no one from Administration (that I am aware of) was at the game on Saturday. Maybe if they had been they would have seen this embarrassment and felt compelled to speak to our AD. 2. Administration (Athletic) - Brent Jones is AD and I like him quite a lot, but he needs to hire the person to replace him or Kyle if Kyle took his old position. He needs to be focused on the football issue. 3. Coaching staff - I have been on the (The HC we don’t speak of) Ship but my faith has wavered. But the assistant coaches need to grow up - they are too young for the most part. Did (The HC we don’t speak of) have time and/or money to hire who he really wanted? I don't know the answer but this issue needs to be addressed soon. 4. Players - I will not call out names but on Saturday night, for the first time, I was less than proud of how they acted on the sidelines. During a time out in the second half a number of players spent that time watching the Georgia State dance team - not engaging with their team mates, or supporting them in any way. This also goes back to coaching as well as team leadership. I find it hard to believe that all they learned under previous coaches has gone out the window. Zero energy in this game. 5. SOTS - I am a former member and for a couple of years I have felt that the band was going through the motions - no new stand tunes, no excitement. Part of this may be attributed to a reduced lack of financial support by the Administration. The full band is not going to a single away game this year. 6. Cheerleaders - poorly named. Very few cheers led. At one point the coaches on the sideline were yelling "Defense, defense" not the cheerleaders. 7. No shakers - we have not handed out shakers in over a year. I need the skinny cardinal ones on a stick! (See Penn State white out or the Auburn student section for reference). And, I need a lot of them.
As frustrated as I am - I will be at any game I am able to get to. I will cheer the entire game. I will not revoke my financial support. I still have hope for 6 wins and the Camellia Bowl.

Oooh you better run and hide if you say anything about The Sound. Iâve been thinking the same as you. I think itâs not their fault. They rarely get an opportunity to put on a full show. Halftime is usually band day or Veterans Day or alumni day. We should honor those groups differently and get the band out there putting on a show.
Everything else you said, Iâm too tired. We stink. Itâs on the administration and board now. My season ticket money could be used towards a new watch. (The HC we don’t speak of) has a Rolex, maybe Iâll save up. By the end of his contract, I should have the cheddar to buy one.

I am just one word about the state of the Troy football program and that is DEPRESSED! In one year Troy has gone from a well respected D1 football program that can beat anybody, any where at any time to a D1 bottom feeder. This program under the current coaching staff has taken 10 steps backward. I almost wander if there was or is a conspiracy to bring the proud Troy football program who had earned Significant D1 relevance in the state of Alabama down to its knees, and back to a reality that it should never be mentioned in the same breath as Alabama or Auburn. I just hope that the AD is NOT ok with this, and something is done sooner then later.

I trust the "powers" at Troy are paying attention.

I donât think Brent needs them to tell him the on field performance was unacceptable. 2) What makes you think Brent isnât focused on the troubles with the football team. 3) The money is there. Not sure whatâs going wrong with this staff, it is not a good time right now. 4) Player issues of those types go right back to the staff and ATD. 5) The band is great. I have no musical talent whatsoever. I enjoy their work though. 6) Cheerleader issues. Thereâs likely some drama involved with that somewhere down the line. 7) Shakers are cool.

We really have gone into Depression mode not frustrating mode if we are talking the SOTS at this point. Generally speaking SOTS have had tremendous energy and frankly one of the high points in coming just a few years ago. I do think that some of the outfits for our auxiliary to SOTS have been questionable due to overall projection of appearance but SOTS has been great and I appreciate their efforts

I do agree about not having the time to perform a full halftime show. But in the stands - it's the same thing year in and year out. There are our traditional cheers that definitely belong. But play Seven Nation Army, play more of the gladiator tune from years ago - it fits in with our warrior theme, something current students and more importantly - players would like. I'd love to see the band play a tune picked by the players each year. We don't play "Are you from Dixie" in pre-game anymore. And why would a kid who is not a music major choose to be in the band, practice 8+ hours a week, all day Saturday on game day, if he/she doesn't get to even perform the full show or go to an away game at least once year? AND the new uniforms were put on hold.

I know this isn’t the SOTS board but as long as it’s being discussed on this thread here goes .... the director is dialing it in the last five years or so. I’ve has two students in the band over that time and not a single thing has changed Same stand tunes week in week out and this season their game energy is down. I also was in the SOTS and appreciate their long hours but the director needs some new ideas and energy. Also pep band needs a better required travel uniform Get them some decent warmups or put in that uniform but those t shirts slouchy khakis and whatever jacket looks bad

I never post but I have to for this. Dr. Walker has far from "dialed it in." Just like the team, there are younger, inexperienced years and older, more experienced years. I have seen vast improvement from September to the last time I saw them at the Prattville competition. As for uniforms, the school hasn't ponied up the money for regular uniforms that are in their 15th season of use, so what makes you think they'd pony up for a once or twice a year pep band? The band doesn't have money to do things they used to because the money just isn't there. If you want them to have this stuff, write a check and give it to Dr. Walker.

New ideas and energy cost zero . I feel like Students would be happy to absorb the cost of a decent travel uniform as I paid for two during my students time there I pride myself on being able to disagree and move on Main thing is that everything seems a little tired worn and underdone this year

I've been thinking it for a long time now and I was not going to say anything but you've lanced the boil so.
The stylistic direction of the Fanfare is, IMO, so poor that honestly I don't really like hearing it anymore. It breaks......my......freakin' heart to say it because that has been the gold standard for me but I just can't get on with it. And I know the kids spend so much time, energy and effort on what they do. I don't want to tear that down. But it just doesn't sound good anymore, due not to playing but to it's direction.
The big breaks before the triplets = double yuck. The triplets played so fast = triple more yuck. Both are like nails on a chalkboard to me. I'd bet all they ever hear is how great it all is but someone really needs to step up and say "if it isn't broke, don't fix it".
As for the selections. I either don't know the songs but more frequently, don't like the songs. The Turtles? That's the most inspiring pick of songs to arrange. Ehh...
They don't care at all about my thoughts, so it doesn't matter what I think. I just hate when my buds talk about their school's band being so great (who just happen to be at WVU coincidentally), I can't really point to the modern day SOTS without thinking "I can't put that forth". It' ain't horrible but it isn't inspiring from arranging to even marching. Lounder? Yes. That's about the only mark I'd feel like I could check.

Wouldn't surprise me if DC Brandon Hall is fired after this season.
I think we went too cheap on defensive coaches to be honest. Most of those coaches don't have quality experience, this don't command a high salary.

I think a lot of the frustration boils down to the fact there's nothing we can do about it. We can't come up with better defensive schemes, we can't go out on the field ourselves and make a tackle, etc... all we can do is buy a ticket and watch. Since we have people on here who have either played or coached before what do you do in situations like this? I can imagine as a player you'd be frustrated because you're going to practice, your doing everything your coaches tell you to and on game day things are panning out. If you're a coach you're watching film, drawing up plans, working on correcting errors and on game day you get beat. What do you do? How do you handle it?
