I’m not sure if any of us know the answer to this question yet, but here goes. When a player enters the portal, does he lose the ability to remain with his current team or is it like MLB where a player can “test” the free agent market but resign with his current team-as Nick Markakis did this off season with the Braves?

They can remain with the team.... if of course the team / coach allow it.

From NCAA Guidelines Publication
2. YOU RETURN TO YOUR FIRST SCHOOL WITHOUT PARTICIPATING IN SPORTS AT THE SECOND SCHOOL If you participate in sports at a Division I or II school, enroll at a second four-year school and then return to the first school, you may use an exception to compete immediately at the first school if you did not practice or compete at the second school.

I foresee a lot of guys “testing” the market unless, and until, coaches say “bye” and some players find themselves without a team or scholarship. That sounds harsh, but as I Tweeted earlier this week about the Tom Izzo yelling incident, life is hard, it’s not for cupcakes. You have to be a big boy if you’re gonna play big boy games.

There are still hard nose kids out there and even the OKG spoken by coach Cross may occasionally get their feelings hurt because it IS A DIFFERENT WORLD with kids these days. However the OKG becomes almost as important as talent. NOT as important but closer than say 20 years ago. Players ARE NOT AS TOUGH AS A WHOLE TO 20-30 years ago. They are bigger and stronger etc but NOT TOUGHER. There were tons of abuses in those days but the treatment and restrictions by the NCAA and NIH the Nationa Institute of Health. Has mad it safer and that is good. But the general youthful population is not as accepting of less than ME first. Just the way it is. Before I get blow back from hundreds die to this kid and that one. True there are great tough kids out there but the % is simply less.

Oh yes it is not their fault either. It is my generations approach to kids and the results are troubling

No is an answer that is acceptable. Wish I had done it seven thousand times more than I did
