Not a good look for anyone involved, if true. There are really only a few ways to look at this. 1) Marcus was not happy with the new coaching staff and decided to leave, and Neal felt like he needed to help a former player and provided a home. 2). This is what they both wanted anyway, everything was going through the motions, a pretense. 3) Neal has feelers out for some guys he can take with him.
I would have watched a few WVU games to cheer on the guy (and VK) who took us from nothing to something. But this is a sour taste. No happy with this at all.

XCNB recruited him to WVU. First by back channels then officially once he entered the portal. It sucks. Definitely sours some of the points XCNB said on his way out. But it’s business. Let’s move on. But maybe the clowns on here will quit blaming CCL for everything...

Please provide proof of back channeling. I am not saying Vic did not. As to once in portal yes I To would take him. Is that a tacit: O.k. Vic put The feelers out there! I hope not but I actually would have gone wins ago with my former college coach if only I had known he wanted me. In today’s world it is so much easier to know these things. Marcus is a good player and I would not look a gift horse in the mouth but I seriously doubt Neal put feelers out to get a guy who wanted to be with him. Yes call me naive. Heck call me Lucy or whatever. In my day I would have gone to my coaches new school. I just did not have the way to let him know I would have. It was about 4 years later in an over lapping coach who told me after I graduated.

Say what you want with the warm fuzzies, this ticks me off and I hold it against all of them. That includes XCNB, the buck stops with him.

If he doesn't coach for us, he's the enemy, no way around it.

If he doesn't coach for us, he's the enemy, no way around it. Yep. And what does the enemy do ? Steal your players. Back channels through the family and high school coaches and then full court once legal.

NB and this staff were here for four years and built a culture. None of us are on the inside to know what is happening with the current staff. A lot of unknowns with this staff 1) How will they recruit 2) How will they handle discipline and will we have off field issues 3) Can they win 4) How will game management be 5) How will the player/coach relationships be
I was a part of a coaching change at Troy that didn't involve a whole new staff as Maddox was promoted. I can tell you that had the transfer thing been a big thing back then that a few players possibly would have followed Rhodes and Coach Mac. Even though the basic culture stayed the same the team attitude wasn't the same. Some times change is good and sometimes not. We will soon see this spring and upcoming season. I can't emphasize how well the prior staff related to players and remember this entire team..100% were recruited by the prior staff. Coaches leaving is part of college football and we can all sit here and say players know this, but remember these are 18-21 year old kids that don't think or react like a 30-60 year old does. I remember what it felt like when Coach Rhodes and Coach Mac left. Coach Mac recruited me and Coach Rhodes had been my HC for two years. At the time I felt like they abandoned us, now I realize they advanced their careers.

Was Neal Brown who we needed when he was hired, was he all in for Troy, did he do a good job for us? YES!
Does Neal Brown recognize that it is in his best interest to continue to have success as a coach, does he have a means to stay in touch with our current players and will he do so if it will help ensure his success? YES!
These things are not mutually exclusive, it's possible that they coexist. Make no mistake, however. As painful as it may have been for him to pack up and move to Morgantown, as much as he may have hated leaving the team he recruited, as much as he misses the friends he made here, his loyalty and allegiance now rests in the WVU Mountaineers and he will do whatever he can to improve that team and win. Will that hurt us? Possibly, but that's life. I hope he does well in all his future endeavors, but I have no illusions that he will consider the impact his decisions have on TROY TROJAN football - now or in the future. Not only that, I don't think he should. He's moved on, and if he can improve Mountaineer football by "accepting" a transfer from TROY, you can bet your sweet patoot he will. I harbor no ill will toward him for that, it is what it is. We are no longer his concern and we might as well get over it.
The thing for us to do now is replace those guys that are leaving/have left. If we can find the guys to do that in the transfer portal, you can bet that's what we'll do. Life goes on.

I did not say “he is NOT the enemy now”. I just prefer to treat our enemies in the term of if thirsty, give them something to drink. If hungry give them something to eat. Treat them with respect and THEN BEAT THE SNOT OUT IF THEM AND SHOW THEM THEIR INFERIORITY.

He can do whatever he wants, including poaching his old school, which is really sh*tty because Troy gave him his first HC job. Troy is the school that took Vic Koenning.....TWICE! And stealing a player through back channels, or even front channels, is a hell of a way to show gratitude.

Not really,5-9 174 got burned plenty........He got hot on some returns but I guarantee we will fill his vacancy nicely, and he very possibly won’t play anymore than he’s promised at whatever school he lands.Trons was a tackling machine so will be missed but he wasn’t coming back regardless.
This really isn’t much of a blip on the screen
