Our Troy Trojans had a huge come from behind victory on the road in overtime over the Arkansas State Red Wolves on Saturday. Troy was down 5 points late in the 2nd half when Javan Johnson hit a huge 3 with 54 seconds left to go in the game. On the ensuing possession, Arkansas State turned the ball over after Red Wolves' guard, Ty Cockfield committed a player control foul on B.J. Miller. On the Trojan's next possession, Miller hit a layup with 2 seconds to go in regulation after a nice assist from Darian Adams to send the game into overtime. Needless to say, there were some HUGE plays down the stretch by B.J. Miller and other Trojans to win this game. Miller finished with a career high 21 points.
In overtime, Troy outscored the Red Wolves 12-7 in overtime to win the game. Troy is now 9-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play. What is interesting to note is that senior's Alex Hicks and Jordon Varnado both fouled out of the game (Hicks fouled out early in overtime and Varnado before the end of the second half). B.J. Miller, Javan Johnson, and a host of other Trojan players stepped up down the stretch to win the game for the Trojans.
For the game, Jordon Varnado finished with 27 points and 6 rebounds. B.J. Miller had 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Sophomore forward, Javan Johnson had 17 points and 5 rebounds. Senior Alex Hicks chipped in 12 points and 3 rebounds in only 23 minutes of playing time (because of foul trouble). As you look at the stat line, you can see great balance in scoring for the Trojans. Hopefully, this is something that can build upon as they continue in a very difficult and competitive Sun Belt conference.
Looking ahead, Troy will play two games this week at Trojan Arena. On Thursday night, they will take on Georgia Southern. The Eagles are 10-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play. On Saturday, Troy will take on the league leading Georgia State Panthers. The Panthers are 13-4 and 4-0 in league play.
