Troy at Southern Miss would have been in my Top 5 with LSU, Nebraska, APP (2016), and Arkansas State (2017). Bowl game vs North Texas is up there too. Losses to Clemson and App (2015) were fun games.

IMO Top 10 games of the Blakeney FBS era would include: Missouri (2004), Marshall (2003&2004), Oklahoma State (2007), Mississippi St (2001&2012), Miracle in Murfreesboro (2006), Navy (2012), bowl win vs Rice (2006), and the close OT bowl game losses to Southern Miss (2008) and Central Michigan (2009), those were great games. Maybe would also incl. the close shootout losses vs Oklahoma St (2010) and Tennessee (2012)... and LSU meltdown (2008). Most heartbreaking loss ever, followed by FAU (2007). That’s more than 10 games now.
Other than that, we simply dominated our SBC opponents most of the time.
We have only been FBS since 2001 but already played in many great games. That’s a lot of FBS history in such a short time. Amazing.

Nebraska this season I would rate higher than LSU in 2017 for four reasons. 1) they were our first D1 game in 2001 2) they had Scott Frost and he was coming off the 13-0 miracle season at UCF 3) Nebrska had beaten us a combined 57-0 in our last two meetings 4) we have played LSU close twice before, losing by 3 and blowing a 41-3 lead in 2008.
IMO Nebraska for those reasons was the biggest win of NB tenure

I'm just stating our history with them and the hype of Frost imo it was a bigger win. We had two games prior with LSU we should have won, we had never even remotely played Nebraska close

Personally, I liked the Nebraska win better. We kind of expected to win and we knew it was possible. LSU win technically is bigger and created more hype but still it could have been a fluke. Beating Nebraska after beating LSU is a statement! We got that SI mag feature story out of it and we can use both wins to promote our program to recruits and potential coaches. XCNB said it would likely show in our 2020 recruiting class.

First year starter at qb etc. It was a huge, huge win

(2 very bad fumbles at LSU that gave them life). But of course the brand name of both is big.

They normally have back up stories, etc.

Had several co-workers bringing me copies of the magazine that week!

Obviously I'm partial to the 84 and 87 championship games! But I'll tell you what ... just as I like to say we don't move up to 1-AA and 1-A ... without our 3 championships ... I think you can't overstate the importance of the Missouri and OK State games. I was still coaching so couldn't make it to the games .. but man, those games really put us on the map. So, together with the wins AT P5 stadiums last couple years ... sets the stage for us to actually achieve what everyone is talking about as a "next step" ... year in and out being considered one of the premiere G5 teams. It'll show when the preseason predictions and lists start (already saw one) ... and we're in the list for possible G5 team to be in NY bowl! Amazing ... considering where we came from! Great time to be a Trojan!

Great time to be a Trojan! I agree about the 3 Championships playing a huge role. We had tradition set and even when LB took over a program that had lost his footing, the tradition was still there. Every building needs a foundation, proud that I was a extremely small almost microscopic part of a far corner of the slab of what we have become

Good to see 1984 on top of the list. The leap into the air Ted Clem made after nailing the game winning field goal should be a statue.

Good to see 1984 on top of the list. The leap into the air Ted Clem made after nailing the game winning field goal should be a statue. In 1984 newspapers still used tin plate transfers for photos. I found the one for this photo in a box of trash at the university. It's now framed and hangs in my TROY den.
