According to football scoop. Ryan Pugh will be OC and Brandon Hall will be DC. So we have a $2,000,000 coaching budget and we hire a guy who has been a OL coach for three seasons and never been a OC as OC and a Co DC at a FCS school as our DC?

You know he'll just be doing the organizational type work. (The HC we don’t speak of) is the OC and playcaller. Good reputation ... good recruiting contacts in the region and seems to know how to coach OL. Remember ... $2 mill doesn't go very far when you talk about 10 on field coaches ... and I assume you have to use that to pay some off-field guys too? So, young, hungry coaches on their way up? If it works for HC ... it can work for assistants as well!

you know sometimes people just work well together. Hopefully some of the guys that were here do stay. Let's just wait and see. That really is all any of us can do and it makes that first Trojan Walk more interesting in trying to figure out who everyone is in the first place. I am assuming in someway CCL knows something about the guys that he is hiring because the better he does the better his future employment whether it is here or elsewhere.

And yes my point above is laden with self interest by those involved. It is that self interest we can assuredly count on in almost all situations. I am not saying that the interest of Troy University the team, the fans etc are not a motivating factor at all. However, and alas we can always count on self interest.

(The HC we don’t speak of) is our head coach. He's been in the profession for about 20 years. Been pretty good at it. I assume he's putting together the best staff he's able to put together. Williams, Hall, Hardemon are known ... obviously good coaches. Hope Blackmon stays as well. I live near JSU ... Hall has great reputation amongst HS coaches up here ... not only as recruiter but as a defensive coach/teacher. I think our special teams were solid this season ... shows he can "coordinate". So, let's judge (The HC we don’t speak of) and the staff by results! I'm glad we have kept at least 3 good coaches from the previous staff. That's some continuity! Go Trojans!

The guy has been HC for 2 minutes and people are already saying the Troy program is heading off a cliff. Jesus, Mary and Joseph.....

Fanbases will almost always be split on new coaching hires. No need to try and run them off for thinking differently than you.

Didn’t you always say don’t get your feeling hurt on the internet? Don’t call my football program a dumpster fire and a response would not have been made.

Surf report: Good morning, we have partly cloudy skies, air temp is 44, water is 64, wind is blowing 10-20 mph out of the NNW. The low tide will be at 8:32 am and the high tide will be at 6:05 pm. Surf is flat today.

Some of you on here need to make up your minds. You ridicule any FCS coach as not having FBS experience yet now you're perfectly okay with a co-defensive coordinator from an FCS school being our defensive coordinator. And you're saying we need experienced offensive coordinator and you're perfectly content with a guy that's only been coaching offensive line for 3 years and now it's going to be an offensive coordinator. So I'm getting confused on your rationale

It AMAZES ME the number of unemployed college football coaches, athletic directors and support staff on this board. What REALLY amazes me is that not one of them was hired (nor did they apply) for a job they feel they are acutely better qualified for than the person(s) being hired.

To be fair, JSU's defenses were outstanding those four years. Maybe he's learned a thing or two from Vic. We'll see about Pugh, but I don't understand the hire. They don't run the spread at BYU, and their offense wasn't that good either. He also has no experience as an OC.

So I'm getting confused on your rationale You could be named OC and it wouldnât matter. We all know who the OC, QB coach and play caller is. DC is key. You know Hall is already at Troy. What if (The HC we don’t speak of) called Vic and Neal and asked them about Hall as DC. And they both said great things and gave glowing recommendations. Hmmm. Yâall act like (The HC we don’t speak of) is dumb as a box rocks and has just fell off the turnip truck....

SMDH And I bet you 100% trust the government to. You didn't apply for nor qualified for those positions either so dont question or disagree with anything government does. They were hired to do that job. Trust and agree with every decision. No difference. We dont have Jesus as a HC. I'm not perfect and neither is he. We are all free to question until proven wrong. NB wasn't my choice but I quickly became impressed starting with the staff. So if I'm wrong or he impresses me I'll be the first to admit it. Right now I'm under impressed and I have a right to not agree.

It's possible (The HC we don’t speak of) is going to be in more of a mentorship role with Ryan Pugh, with (The HC we don’t speak of) having complete control. We'll have to see how it goes.

I could be wrong about I think he was a 4 year start at Auburn. On a line that helped Auburn win a National Championship. Also (The HC we don’t speak of) was his OC when he played at Hoover HS. I am okay with this hire. byucougars.com/staff/football/1283098/Ryan-Pugh
