If NB leaves, Troy will be getting 2.9 million. With that buyout money we could easily go sign a coach for more than 1.5 million over 3 years. ($5.33m divided by 3 is $1.78m).
Who is out there that would excite us?

I doubt itโs still 2.9m buyout (probably a lot less since Jan 1)...

We got into this conversation a few months back. I don't think it's anywhere near $3 Million anymore. More like a couple grand a box of Crowes

So, by taking a job in January ... a coach can effectively take millions away from the school he's leaving.

Would love to know the amount, if any, we were able to put in front of NB to get him to stay.

WVU fan here,
Here is the source this is a partial excerpt from our page but contract details and buyout can be found on USA Today which has every coaches contract.
Koenning, who coaches safeties, may intrigue WVU. A former head coach at Wyoming, he's been a success as an assistant at Clemson and Kansas State as well as Troy. Moore has been Brown's coordinator or co-coordinator all four seasons, and he worked with Brown previously on staffs at Troy and Texas Tech. He's also Troy's offensive line coach, which is an important position, and was also a highly successful high school coach in Georgia and Alabama.
The curiosity about Brown is his buyout. It's been reported to be $2.9 million. We speculated Wednesday it's much lower. It turns out that's true.
According to information obtained by USA Today, Brown's buyout is just $300,000, and that readily explains WVU's willingness to pay it. The Mountaineers could further reduce that. The buyout would dip to $150,000 if WVU agrees to play a home-and-home series with the Trojans.
