I had forgotten the Washington state QB was part of the Troy walk on program until it was mentioned in pregame.

I didn’t think he was a walk on. I thought he was a fairly highly rated recruit that left after the Spring when he didn’t beat Brandon out.

He entered Troy in January as a walk during his first spring. Came to Tday as the #2 behind Brandon Silvers and was going to be put on scholarship later that summer. Decided that May to go to Juco instead. EDIT. He was offered by LB the October just a week before LB announced his retirement . He chose Troy over Jones Community College in December 2014 and committed after NB evaluated him. Graduated school then and was an early enrollee . Signed with the 2015 class and was going to be on scholarship.

Check out his timeline and you will find out he was already a student enrolled at Troy and in class participating as a walk on when he signed the LOI on February 4th 2015.

He wasn't technically a walk-on. They were able to use the same academic scholarship my daughter attended on, The Millenial Scholarship (31 or higher ACT). It covers full tuition and room and board. They used this instead of an athletic Scholarship. One of my former teamates who is from and lives in MS contacted Troy about him.

Being a college walk-on simply means you are on the college team and receive no form of athletic financial aid (athletic scholarship) during that time. I was considered a walk on by the NCAA even though I did not pay a penny.

I posted an article substantiating his signing a LOI.

The week that GameDay was in Pullman they did a full story on his college career that included some spring highlights at TROY.

We did fine with Silvers. Mike Leach makes decent QB's into stars playing in his system. None panned out in the NFL yet.

Not to many football players make 31 ACT...well they do but they play at Harvard or Northwestern lol

Can't recall his name right now. Think he was a 3 star.

I think based on NCAA regulations he wouldn’t have been able to play in the next season while getting academic aid he would have been a counter and had to be put on an athletic sclorship.Essentially Troy got a free look based on his academics but would had to been put on athletic aid once varsity competition began.
I actually do not think he beats out Barker either so it’s a moot point.Happy for him, good family.

I know for female sports great grades that can get academic aid is a huge bonus because they dont have to use a "athletic scholarship". Football has different rules I know
