So if Troy plays South in the championship game is it another Battle for the Belt?

So if Troy plays South in the championship game is it another Battle for the Belt? No, it will be a battle for the ring...we have the belt, we need the ring to go with it. One must accessorize properly if one is to be on top of his game.

If Troy plays South in the Championship this year the Sun Belt West needs to drop to FCS

Like it or not, there is a ceiling for FCS schools. The fact that those schools play in that division limits the quality of the recruits they will sign, it limits the strength of competition they play, therefore limits their development, and it limits the exposure they will receive. Playing ball in the FBS makes a program, any program, i better. We are a prime example of that. If you think TROY football would have the facilities it has, would have enjoyed the national exposure it has enjoyed, would routinely sign the quality of players it signs, or be as strong a program and being playing ball at the skill level it does, if it were still in FCS, you are mistaken. For these reasons, any school that meets the requirements of competing at the FBS level and desires to do so should. No program that meets those criteria should be told they need to drop down to FCS. Just because a program doesn't have a realistic chance to win the "national championship" doesn't mean they shouldn't play at the level that will best benefit said program. There are so many benefits to playing at the highest level that have nothing to do with winning a trophy in a bogus 4 game playoff.

I understand your points and I do agree with them about us but there is another side to this. Would North Dakota St be held in the regard it is without winning 5 consecutive FCS titles and 6 out of the last seven all while beating Kansas St and Iowa along the way. Would GA Southern or App St be where they are without winning multiple 1-AA titles? Would we have been as successful without the success we had at D2 and 1-AA? These top FCS schools still get the big money game, play for a title and play D1 in their other sports. I totally agree some FCS schools could and need to make the move up. Others like Montana and NDSU would have a hard time not competing but the travel. Other schools like Austin Peay, TN Tech, Murray St, Western Carolina etc would never compete in FBS nor do they have the facilities or money to. As more top level FCS schools move up the gap between FCS and FBS will get larger as some of the remaining FCS schools will be closer to D2 than FBS

"any school that meets the requirements of competing at the FBS level and desires to do so should. No program that meets those criteria should be told they need to drop down to FCS."
This was the intended emphasis of my point. The decision to play at the FBS vs FCS level should lie with the governing board of the universities that meet the requirements for FBS play. I agree that at this point, Austin Peay should not play FBS, even if they meet the requirements of competition at that level, and I don't believe the governing board of that institution would vote to make that move. Whether to do that, though, should be their decision to make. If they feel it is in the best interests of the university to play football at the FBS level, and they meet the requirements to do so, they shouldn't be told that they should stay put based on the perceived level of competition. We have spent the better part of a year arguing against that exact treatment of UCF by the College Football Playoff Committee. We can't have it both ways. We can't be condescending to lesser competition when we argue against that same behavior when directed at us or our peers. That's all I'm saying.

Well my point of the West dropping to FCS was in jest not putting down FCS. I mean I played D2 ball so I have great respect for the so called lower levels. There are several FCS schools who could play with us right now and why they don't make the move baffles me. Three in particular are NDSU, Jax St and James Madison. Very, very little difference in talent levels of these schools to a G5, difference is only in the scholarships and depth. NFL is full of FCS players as is the HOF...most notably Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Kurt Warner, John Stallworth, Joe Greene, Michael Strahan, Jackie Slater, Jan Stenerud and on and on.
