These young guys are recruited to play football, and while we as grown adults often say its unrealistic, a lot of them intend to play at the next level. If they don't think they'll get seen at the school they're at, they're going to try somewhere else. They're resume building and need the playing time. It's not the intention of college sports, but it is the current reality for football with no minor league. And each team only has one starting QB. Do you take a chance the starter goes down, or do you transfer so you at least have a shot at the NFL?

I disagree. If a player doesn't want to ride the bench and can find playing time at another school, then more power to them. It's their life.

Both could play at the next level like Randal El (sp) or the guy who played for Pittsburgh (Heinz). They are not good enough with passing mechanics to even entertain the NFL as a QB

Jalen Hurts is getting PT by the grace of Saban. He probably won't play at all against LSU if LSU makes it a ballgame. Kelly Bryant may not of been able to play at Clemson, but I bet he could start somewhere like the Pac-12. He could start at UCLA and be a big deal in Los Angeles. You owe it to yourself to choose the best opportunity for success.

It is hard to ask to begin that transition at your school where you were the schidizzle QB. If they want to play QB in college of course they get a job elsewhere. Perhaps Nebraska for example but loosing prep time for QB in NFL no way.

Even Troy uses that line on recruits. These guys are going to try whatever they can because it's the dream they've worked for. Like I said, it's largely unrealistic for most of the young guys playing college ball. That's not going to stop most of them from trying and grasping on to that hope.

And... then there is Rudy. A dream to play for the Irish and he made it happen. I didn't play college ball but I went to Troy as an undergrad. I flunked out. After community college, I finished my BS at AU (honestly I felt anger at Troy -- wrongfully of course) , but it always bothered me that I didn't finish at Troy. A few years later I went back to Troy and earned my MBA. I did it to earn an MBA but also to fulfill something that was missing. Now when I am with my Troy Alumni friends I am part of the club.
Anyway.. my point is... there will be that player at a school that has love for a school and it won't matter if they play or not. Those are the men that don't get the newspaper headlines and fans won't remember their names but for them personally, they have accomplished something.

Some of these guys won't shift to another position....like Tebow for instance. Tebow could have been a TE or H-back but refused. Been many a college qb switch to another position and play in the NFL. Paul Horning, Randal E., Brad Smith, Jim Jenson, Tyrell Pryor etc.

Tebow has a Heisman and a Natty to his name... plus he is an all around good dude. These are all perfect ingredients for a tv personality. Yeah you don't get the glory and maybe not as much cash as an NFL star, but you can make a long career out of it and you don't ruin your body with years of abuse. I bet those that advise Tebow suggested he go tv and I think they were right.

With Kelly Bryant transferring now at Clemson it is really screwing up things on how to coach. Not that I am looking forward to it but next year with Free, Watson, Smith and Barker. It could be even Troy’s Time to put up with this trend. Leaves some schools in terrible situations like Nebraska but leaves even Clemson vulnerable. The atmosphere of what is in it for me is becoming more and more oeonounced. The G5 will probably be less effected but it is a bad trend for the game. A player that already red shirted does not matter. The rule is 4 games and then you can red shirt transfer. Like Smith has already red shirted so he would loss a year of eligibility to transfer to another D1 school.

Free not sure but what I am referring to is actually the new transfer rules and guys are unlikely to (at least for a while) want to sit around and not play. It may be fair for all but it is a new world that will take a while to shake out its long term impact
