I'm going with Mareno Philyaw. Philyaw played several positions as I recall I remember him at 2, and QB was one of them in that dreadful 3-8 season before Nutter came on board. The cupboard was so bare, the best option @ QB was to take a good WR (Philyaw), put him @ QB, let him hand the ball off or run for his life. He was a willing sacrificial lamb that season and for that reason, I'd have NO problem putting him in the Hall of Fame. He should be recognized. Ok, maybe that's a little drastic, but he's seldom mentioned as one of TROY's greats, and I think he is for the above reason. His brother, David, played on the defensive side of the ball as a DB and he may have played multiple positions as well.

Carl Meadows? Can he be considered in this discussion?

. Yes. Kelvin Simmons is the best QB in Troys history. No no no no no. Kelvin was good, but Turk has 2 nattys and was an all American. And whoever said Kelvin would be good on our current team is mistaken. He looked good against 1AA teams but we now have full blown D1 Qbs Kelvin would beat out Barker, that I assure you. Kelvin was something special. Only lost 2 games from HS through college. But since he was 1-AA and that's not good enough for our "D1" players, I guess these future NFL players couldn't play on today's team....Leonard Wheeler, Kerry Kenkins, Lawrence Tynes. Also Carson Wentz couldn't start at Troy, neither could Walter Payton, John Stalworth, The entire Pittsburgh Steelers Steel Curtain Defensive line, Jerry Rice or Joe Flaco

Carl Meadows? Can he be considered in this discussion? Sure. It’s a Troy football message board. You can even throw in Jeremy Rowell. Jeremy was a good little runner at QB. Stan Davis ? Omar H. ? Hansell Bearden ?

All are good.
I just prefer to live in this century.

What is our overall record against ULM? I know they have our number in Monroe. Just hope we come out on the good end of an expected dogfight IMO. I can’t believe that not a single tv outlet is carrying this game, not even ESPN3. What gives?

I can’t believe that not a single tv outlet is carrying this game, not even ESPN3. What gives? It is being carried on ESPN+, the new pay network that the Sunbelt signed on to. Rather than give away content on ESPN3, ESPN is trying to raise revenue and capture some of the cord cutting market. The first week trial is free so you could signup to watch the game and then cancel It is $4.95 per month and will carry other sports including PGA golf and Canadian Football.

The few games I've already watched it seems to be a better quality than Espn3. Also you get access to espn insider information.

Well two are fictional, one I've never heard of but I'm sure he's to small for even D3 let alone 1-AA the other died on the cross for us over 2,000 years ago and I assure you he had more important things to do than play football but if he had he would have been the greatest to ever play

Remember D.T. McDowell? ... he had all the potential, #11 dual threat in the country, played solid against LSU as a true freshman. That’s all I can remember and that he played Baseball.
Somebody mentioned Levi Brown.
I love watching highlight videos from this era, we had so much talent, talented players and coaches. Our coaching staff was maybe a bit naive back then (play-calling).
L.Brown vs Southern Miss

L.Brown vs Southern Miss We threw for more yards with Levi. I still remember him setting the record in 2009. I don't remember if Corey Robinson beat it in the 2012 Tennessee Game when we had 720 yards offense but had Rowell for a DC

No excuse to lose the Tennessee game. One of the worst Vol teams in history led by the incompetent Derek Dooley. Blew a lead in the 4th QTR.

No D; evidently on either side of the ball! I think he is running the defense here at West Port HS. West Port's qb (we offered but is committed to Tennessee) was 38-52 for 477 yds and 5 TD, scored 48 points and lost 52-48 to Orlando Haggerty. Haggerty rushed for 485 yds and was 0-3 passing. Second time this season he threw for over 400 and lost
