My biggest problem with the lost last Saturday was my expectations of what this year we were going to be:
1. I was excited/proud about the opening of the NEZ Project. 2. I was excited/proud about Troy finally getting the attention we deserved on a National Level and possibly being the next Central Florida, due to 4 of our Offensive linemen returning and Wide Receivers returning to help out our new quarterback and running backs who are talented. 3. I just knew our defense was going to be lights out under Coach Vic. 4. I knew our fans were going to be excited; therefore, I bought 10 extra tickets for some friends to see what we have going on at Troy.
Then the came the disappointment along with with Boise fans cheering at all our mistakes. I know our coaches and players are hurt as well.
In Closing, I truly feel that our Trojans will have a good year possibly 8-9 games. However, my expectations were that we going to be that team the Nation talked about this year. Saturday, we lost that opportunity, just like the previous years when we were ranked in the Top 25.....so the lines will continue to read, "Who is Troy!"
Go Trojans forever.

It all depends upon what you were basing your expectations on. We’re they based upon Troy winning 11 games last year? Did you take into consideration the loss of leadership and experience at multiple positions? Was any thought given to the quality of the opponent coming into game one? What it boils down to is that Troy underperformed in four quarters. There’s a minimum of 44 quartes remaining in this season. I wouldn’t throw the baby out with the bath water just yet. troy.boards.net/thread/3984/game-threadGive this thread a read. It’s a year old, but it’s basicslly the same Negative Nancies overreacting and the same level headed people using logic. Same story, same people, different year.

No Hemi....based upon a parent who has a student in the athletic department, comments from players/students, having the most athletes on Sunbelt Team, quality of coaching staff, and the opening of NEZ Project, looking for a better performance.
There was nothing negative about my expectations....I just felt we were better than what we saw Saturday.

Seems like a knee jerk reaction.

I expect I'll have quite a few beers before kick off on Saturday... Happy Birthday to the Everyone's Favorite Possum.
Does that count for expectations?

My post said we will win 8-9 games. I just thought this year would have been the year we turned the corner.

Thanks CLB for a great graduating 2017 recruiting class. My expectations were based on CLB players graduating and the future coming in. I was thinking I heard we were building Troy future on high school player not JUCO and transfers.

I know the big rb flunked out or something, there was a big OL not listed on the depth chart and I don't see any mention of the rest. Any updates?

We actually looked better in this loss than we did in our win against Akron IMO.

Honestly...just got more work to do. We weren’t ready for 1st game last year and thank god neither was Boise! One year later..same thing except Boise was ready! I still think we have the players and coaches in place to have a great season. The sky is not falling and Go Trojans!

Being a Troy fan for many years has taught me a lot about expectations in life.
No idea who this guy is:
“Expectations were like fine pottery. The harder you held them, the more likely they were to crack.” ― Brandon Sanderson, The Way of Kings
Just enjoy the ride and dont crack the pot man. Dont coddle a win / loss record. This aint the team that laid an egg in Athens. Its gonna be ok.

My general feeling was we just wasn’t ready to play a quality opponent! Why? There will be a hundred answers to that question.

A lot of big programs start off with a cupcake game to get the bugs and kinks worked out. I didn't figure we'd be this for Boise on our home turf. Boise came in with fire and was ready to go. We didn't even seem to have fire and we certainly weren't ready. Is this a reflection of the coaches? Is it a reflection of camp? CNB was kind of a broken record this camp saying that he wasn't pleased with how practices were going. I just felt like this being the first game with the NEZ and playing a big name quality opponent at home that we'd at least show up with fire in our eyes.

Yes, the lack of fire is what most find perplexing and frustrating. CNB is the CEO of Troy football, making a million dollars a year. Both the successes and failures fall on his shoulders. He gets the blame but also reaps the rewards. Real world.

With the NCAA banning 2 a days ( we actually had three a days..ugghh) you don't have a lot of time to prepare in camp. Was camp physical enough? I can't say as I wasn't at practices but there is a time and place for physical, hard nose practices and fall camp is where it needs to happen. You taper off as the season goes on the physical part as injuries and fatigue from 12 game schedules loom. Boise was bigger, faster and more physical. They are the bench mark we set for this program but we are still not at their level. We need to keep striving for that level. You could tell they had been there before

Yes we looked like crap.....in a huge way last Saturday night, coaching on down. Most surprisingly to me was our defense struggling so bad against the pass all night, they just looked lost. We missed having a big back and experienced QB, our O line caved over and over. Now fire, no excitement....It sucked, I have been going to TROY games since 1981 and I have never seen a stadium so full and so empty in the same night. I think we get it together and finish out strong, maybe.

We lost to Boise in the opener last year. This board needs to hit a group bong and settle in for some ice cream and brownies. Its going to be a long season.

Last year we had an experienced team playing a very young Boise team...

Couldn’t the answer to all of this be that Troy has a talented but young team and Boise has a spectacular team? No one likes losing big, especially the current football program. But without some of the youthful mistakes this could have been a different game. CNB tried to warn everyone that the team was young and he was trying to bring out the leaders, but we all - myself included - got caught in the hype of last season.
Troy has all the pieces to be a great team, the question is how soon it all comes together.
