I just heard through the grapevine that Jack’s empty palace has plenty of availability. I would check the AirBNB.

Yeah for real Troy has a few AirBnB now.
What’s up with the Hampton Inn? Do they have students who are having to stay there due to other issues? I don’t understand them “extending” the stays.

The possibility of 32 rooms needing to be extended is fishy. There are statutes in several states during natural disasters however if there are statutes in regards to reservations that want to be extended Inwould like tonsee them. A good many resorts and other hotels would have trouble on popular weekends. I could see some trying to make a reservation for a weekend of any choice but the hotel is booked for Friday and Saturday. So the individual really wants to stay so they make a reservation on Thursday so they can not be forced to leave for that weekend. WOW I KIND OF DOUBT THAT!!!!

There’s a ton of hotels in Montgomery as another option, but I would definitely try AirBNB first. I’ve had good experiences with it in other cities.

Just booked a room at the Courtyard for Friday night @ 12,500 points. Guess you got a cancellation of some sorts. However if you wish to stay Sat nite just tell them. You can stay it is the law. If they hassle you tell them to call the Hampton they know the law over there.

Don't forget Ozark has a Hampton Inn, Microtel by Wyndham, and a Baymont by Wyndham... and only a 30 minute drive to Troy.

I'm thinking Troy is getting big enough to have a campus run hotel. Start a degree program in that field and let the students run it.

I'm thinking Troy is getting big enough to have a campus run hotel. Start a degree program in that field and let the students run it. One of the largest majors if not the largest at UCF is Hotel and Hospitality Management. Being in Orlando with Disney, Universal, Sea World and scores of tourist hotels and business hotels, it offers unlimited opportunity for experience and internships. How much use would a University owned hotel get in Troy outside of football and graduations? Maybe some 231 traffic but not a lot of opportunity for the students

It would be nice in theory but it won't happen. #1 no hotel chains are building new ones in Troy #2 Troy is bonded out for a while #3 looking at the major lists Sports and Recreation was the ninth largest major with a very small number of grads and my guess is most are interested in the Sports and Recreation aspect not hospitality

Lockheed Martin is the largest room night generator in Troy - primarily Sunday - Thursday. With the new distillery, Kimber Firearms and the timber company Troy is primed for another and more upscale Hotel. If we had another hotel Troy could also host more Sunbelt tournaments and possibly get back some of the AHSAA tournaments that have been lost - basketball is the largest one. This would be dependent on Troy allowing (renting) Trojan Arena. Additionally, there are small conferences that could be recruited to Troy as long as the new hotel had some measureable meeting space. Meeting space at Troy is now limited to the ballrooms at Trojan Center and comes with the requirement to use Sodexo which can be pricey. During the summer, travel ball tournaments, Dixie Youth and family reunions keep hotels busy. There is more demand in Troy than you think and if the hotels are being less than customer friendly, that business and tax dollars are going elsewhere.

I live in Ocala, FL (340,000 in county) and I-75. We have Lockheed here also, plus a huge horse industry, A new Fed-Ex distribution center along with Auto Zone, Chewys and a host of other companies. We also have a sports complex that has recently hosted two Cal Ripken World Series and travel tournaments in baseball and softball all summer. Pretty much have the Hilton and Holiday Inn And Suites for meeting space here. You wonder what these hotels are thinking. I sit on the board of a youth shelter and we do a huge annual fundraiser and other than the Hilton, there is no where else that can accomodate it. A Troy hotel would be nice but how do they justify it? For profit? For student majors? Are there any other colleges that are doing it?

Yes, both the Courtyard and Hampton Inn have about 900+ sq. ft. of meeting space each. Not enough for even a small conference. I think Troy (city of) should recruit a hotel chain (Hilton Garden Inn maybe) and not TROY (university) at this time. Mainly because a university owned hotel would need to be closer to campus and be off 231 where you would pick up transient business. The Hampton Inn in Troy was originally funded by the University and was later sold to a hotel ownership company. One of those type companies could partner with the University to provide internships and work opportunities for those students in the hospitality program. At the time Trojan arena was built I thought they should have built a conference center and hotel adjacent to that. Obviously they did not listen to me!

According to sources. This has never happened in the last 14 years. That is where contracts for rooms were broken. Thirty-two rooms to be exact. Twenty-five of us not having our contract honored due to ?/ I hope everyone still comes to the game but for this fan the Hamptons excuse is not excusable. I do however appreciate the individuals having to manage this fiasco are put into a difficult position. I have no animosity toward them at all. To the ownership or higher up that has friends at Troy University who needed to bump loyal fans and visiting fans for their friends to have rooms. Well let us say that I don't like it at all. I think it stinks.

We parked at the LSU Alumni Bldg last year in Baton Rouge and as we went in I noticed all these GREAT BIG young men walking around, all in the same blazer, obviously the football team. I wondered why wouldn't they be getting ready to go tot he stadium, etc??? Come to find out, they have EXACTLY what you folks are talking about at LSU, an "on campus" hotel ran by the Alumni Association (imagine that). Check it out: www.thecookhotel.com/

There is no guidance and direction coming from the Board, it ALL COMES DOWN from Mt. HIGH!

Except the Alumni associations is dues paying albeit run by the university. I'm not a accountant and I have enough trouble keeping up with tax laws with my business. I was curious as to whether a tax funded institution can run a for profit business. I know that some athletic depts at p5 schools turn a profit...not sure if Troy does. Now possibly they have a way of saying its for hospitality major or do a seperate 5013c. Just wondering how it's done.
