Patriots release Antonio Garcia, create void at LT Article stated Tony had non-football related health issues, blood clots in the lung. I've read the same thing in a couple of different places now, so I assume the information is factual. If so, this isn't a health issue, this is a health crisis. Blood clots in the lungs can be fatal, instantly fatal. The treatment for this condition is typically anti-clotting medication, commonly referred to as blood thinners. As as a health care professional, I would be concerned about any individual receiving this type treatment participating in any activity in which forceful, violent contact is possible, and beyond concerned if such contact is probable. For someone taking these powerful anticoagulants, a simple concussion could result in a brain bleed which could be debilitating, if not fatal. A few years back, a young NASCAR driver named Brian Vickers had the same condition and his physician removed him from the car for over a year for the reason I gave above. The condition cut short the career of a promising young driver. This situation bears watching, but if it's true Mr Garcia has suffered lung clots, his career may be over. It would be a shame to see that happen to a TROJAN with such a promising NFL career ahead of him.
