"For now, it’s [the quarterback race] a two-person race between redshirt freshman Tristan Gebbia and true freshman Adrian Martinez."
I really like Vik's defense vs a freshman quarterback. Our defense is designed to confuse and befuddle. Certainly works in our favor.

I agree that beating LSU and NE in consecutive seasons would be huge and frankly, I like our chances vs a rebuilding NE better than our chances vs a strong Boise. Don't forget, we too are rebuilding somewhat, especially on the offensive side.
That said, I think beating a strong Boise would be the bigger win for our program. I think our big picture goal (for the next 5 years or so) should be to become the best G5 program out there. In order to do that, we have to consistently beat the top G5 teams when we get a chance, and this year, that's Boise. We can become a top G5 program really quickly but we won't be considered a P5 program (never mind a TOP P5 program) in my lifetime. We need to beat those P5 programs when we get the chance and being know as giant killers will no doubt help bring recognition to our program, but we can't achieve the REACHABLE goal of being feared as a top G5 if we don't beat top G5 teams.
For these reasons, I say beating Boise would be the bigger win, but let's do both and the question becomes moot.

Boise cause it's next/first. Win that one and it makes Nebraska bigger We have talent depth to win them all. And, as Coach said Saturday "If we aren't humble and hungry" every team on schedule could beat us. Love that message! Is it September yet! 😊

We should have beaten Boise last year and in in DT's opinion it was the 2nd shattyest game we played all year - the epic fubar at South.
Coming out strong and seasoned this time, at home, under the new end zonne, would be bigger and would prepare us for Nebraska. The Huskers are going to be the easier win though.

With the publicity that Frost got last year hands down Nebraska. Beating a Big 10 school at their place will Trump beating Boise at Troy. Would love to see both but realistically we have a better chance of beating Boise. Nebraska will be the best offense we see all year and definitely the highest tempo one we will see.

Defense played great but we couldn't muster anything on offense plus let them return a punt for a TD. As far as the South game I vote to putting a rule banning any mention of that game along with Rowell and DC in the same sentence. Don't agree with Nebraska being easier. Frost will turn them around immediately. They have better athletes than UCF when he got there and they were 0-12 the prior season

This entire thread: confidence is one thing, but I think we’re *really* counting our chickens too soon here.

This entire thread: confidence is one thing, but I think we’re *really* counting our chickens too soon here. The thread is which would be a bigger win for the program. In reality to win either would be good for the program. However, to win both would obviously be very big and set us well for the rest of the season. The posts here may have veered in to the would have should have areas but in general it is a statement of as Trojan Brutha put it "All" would be the very biggest wins for the program. So most of the comments are reflecting a response to the initial question and not a prediction.

If we want to be the next Boise State or UCF, we should at least be confident discussing these things. Boise St and Nebraska are both beatable - we beat LSU last year and almost beat Clemson two years ago (and we beat Southern Miss while we were rebuilding)... I am sure our coaches and players see it that way. They defeated LSU, so they know it's possible and how its done.
Boise St is probably a must win. We can't afford losing to another G5 team at home (only issue is, they are more experienced and we play them in week1). The Nebraska game is also winnable, they run a new system, have a new coaching staff, young QB, and overall young team...

That was a great experience in Hattiesburg. There’s was a point where the tired and soaked Troy fans in attendance took the song played by the PA and ran with it. Several of the players turned to see the energy in the stands and seemed to embrace it. That energy on the field and in the stands had been missing for several years. However the turning point for this program was in Boone North Carolina in a loss. I think that night ever fan, player, and coach witnessed the rebirth of Troy football.

That was a key moment in the rebuild. It allowed our guys to realize that when they reached down, deep down, they had what it took to win close, hard fought ball games against good competition in a hostile environment. If a team can accomplish those things, they can achieve success. We saw that last year.
