Dear Trojan Fans;
Hello and salutations from the far brink of the universe, known affectionately to us as Nebraska. I was reading some of your threads as I prepared a summary of your team (Troy) for our website on 24/7 Nebraska. I'd be happy to answer any of your questions and give you a brief synopsis of what you can expect from the Huskers. Also if you have any questions about Lincoln area accommodations, restaurants or fine libations let me know? We're a typically friendly lot, and quite likely to invite you to a tailgate with us.
Many of you have probably been to Lincoln previously during the several times that Larry Blakeney brought your Trojans to Lincoln. We all have a great deal of respect for what he did for your school and program. It appears you've punched your lottery ticket again favorably with Neal Brown!
We feel that we have also found the coach we've been looking for these last 15 years as well, and amazingly he was the last QB to win a National Championship at Nebraska; Scott Frost.
We had been wondering about in the football wilderness for these many years since firing Frank Solich. Our previous coach Riley was perhaps the worst hire ever made by a major university ever. Most of us knew that when he was hired, and kept encouraging his rapid departure along with his little dog the Athletic Director. Fortunately they have both left, are now untethered, out and about with the intention of doing physical harm to other unknowing universities.
Fortunately when we checked the football roster we found that it was in fact not bare, but mostly replete with talent, just with very poor attitudes and work ethics. Coach Duval our S&C coach is deburring and honing those attributes currently.

Anyone that can drop a reference to 'The Wizard of Oz' in a football post is all right in my book.

Since I don't think you guys have been back here for about 10 years, you'll find Lincoln a bit more intriguing than your last visit. The addition of the new Pinnacle Bank Arena (the Vault) has meant a brand new neighborhood in the downtown/stadium/Haymarket center. New hotels and a lot of activity. Some places I recommend: Hopcat hopcat.com/food/lincolnVincenzo's www.vincenzos-ne.com/menu.htmlLeadbelly www.getleaded.com/menu/Buzzard Billy's www.buzzardbillys.com/lincoln/menu/Hiro's 88 hiro88.com/The quintessential Lincoln Steakhouse is Misty's with two locations one in Havelock which is about 5 miles from downtown. But it is the one with all the football historical items (football gear from pro teams and college dating back to the 1930's). The other is downtown a reasonable walk from any hotel. www.mistyslincoln.com/The airport is just about 1.5 miles from downtown, so Uber or Lyft or a standard taxi can get you around, or if you are staying in one of the nicer hotels they all have service. I do recommend you get your hotel reservations NOW. It took less than 2 hours to sell 88,000 tickets for the Spring game a few weeks ago. Tickets for the "practice" are now listing at up to $400 @.

Some thoughts; Lincoln is a city of 265000 people so there are lots of hotels in the city, some are further out like 84th and Pine Lake area. But they might be more reasonably priced than downtown, and there are lots of restaurants and bars throughout the city. Even more advantageous sometimes is to fly into Omaha and spend your nights downtown in Omaha, and use one of the many shuttles to Lincoln and the Stadium. Omaha is about 55 miles away from Lincoln, but you'll find it is abuzz with traffic in the morning. Omaha is a city of 500,000 with a metro area of 975,000 so there are a lot of locations to stay in Omaha. The Old Market in downtown Omaha is famous for it's activities (ask anyone who has ever gone to the College World Series). You'll find flying into Omaha considerably less expensive than flying into Lincoln. www.visitomaha.com/things-to-do/entertaining-neighborhoods/old-market/About halfway between Omaha and Lincoln is a State Park called Mahoney, which has a large Lodge. Reservations are at a premium but the price is quite reasonable. The Lodge sits on a tall hill overlooking the Platte River Valley which is quite pretty especially in the fall. The Park has a great number of activities ongoing within it, and next door is the Strategic Air Command Aerospace Museum. sacmuseum.org/what-to-see/aircraft/outdoornebraska.gov/mahoney/www.visitomaha.com/things-to-do/entertaining-neighborhoods/old-market/If you hit us at about the right time (which I am thinking you are pretty near) you might hit us for the whiskey maker's festival in Omaha. Cigars and fine batch locally made whiskey are always in tune with the good life:)!

The Huskers are probably about two years from being truly competitive within our division, specifically against Wisconsin. We've out-recruited them according to 24/7's composite rankings every year in the last 5 years, and usually by significant margins. Wisconsin however just seems to find "plug-ugglies" for their offensive lines that end up being early round NFL picks, and 2-star OLB's that end up being 1st two rounders. Our culture for our team has to change, and if you've been through that you know that sometimes the only way that gets cured is by graduation. Most fans had hoped that we would hire Scott 4 years ago, but we had an issue within the University administration that had to finally retire before a protege of Tom Osborne would be allowed to return as the Head Coach. Our conference schedule is a bit of steep climb; 4 teams ranked in the top 15, Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, and Michigan State.

Ahhh Nebraska. I had the opportunity to march in Memorial stadium back in 2001 for Troy (the Troy State's) first ever division I game. I then came back years later and lived in Omaha for a couple of years (2012-2014). I think Bo Pelini was a good coach but I think the Husker nation had some unrealistic expectations and that's why they canned a coach that won them a minimum of 9 games a season. I remember Bo's epic meltdown during the Iowa game that ultimately got him fired. Mike Riley was a baffling hire. Nice guy but questionable coach. I think Scott Frost is a great hire. I think our game will at least be competitive because the Trojans will be coming back with starters taking on a good Nebraska team that will still be ironing out the kinks. I just hope it's not the 63-0 drumming we took during our last trip to Lincoln.

Welcome, The TMTDM will be slapping you around later this year. We will hang 40+ on your D. Thanks Come on now, be nice. We have guests on the board. A year ago that might well have happened! Our DC was Bob Diaco, and he was an unmitigated disaster. His only claim to fame is that he was the defensive coordinator who helped coach Neutered Dame to the National Championship game that they got slaughtered in. Our new DC Chinander looks pretty good, he stopped Auburn pretty well in the Peach Bowl. Was a Broyles award finalist in 2016.

I’ve heard a lot of comments of experiences our fans have had at other venues, mostly bad, but the comments I heard about Nebraska was unusually positive. One fan said, “ they were the first opponent I had ever seen clap for OUR GUYS as they left the field at halftime, quite a show of appreciation and sportsmanship for the effort given”!

Nebraska has the best fans Historically they have nearly astounded visiting teams with their appreciation for a good performance in at their teams loss. I remember Bobby Bowden said he had never experienced a teams fans applauding his teams efforts that resulted in a loss for them.

Nebraska has the best fans ..... as long as they are winning. I wonder how many opposing schools they have "cheered" for when they were leaving the field that beat them. Probably the same as every other school, zero.

Probably the same as every other school, zero. I was curious about this too. Because while it is a source of pride to have fans behave like this, they too have been disgruntled and when you are like that very long it tends to change people in a not so good way. I think as purely an experiment we should go there and beat them in a respectable way then monitor the response. Sure I would like for us to win but THIS is science.

SoLuke Ahhh Nebraska. I had the opportunity to march in Memorial stadium back in 2001 for Troy (the Troy State's) first ever division I game. I then came back years later and lived in Omaha for a couple of years (2012-2014). It's an hour long conversation that I won't bore you with . Just don't use curse words like Harvey Perlman, or Shawn Eichorst when you visit !! In my analysis of Troy I stated that you would be our most difficult team to play by a wide margin in the non-conference portion of our season. Were it not that we play Michigan and Wisconsin early in the season as well it would go deeper into our season in that regard. Our greatest concern is that we will be starting either a true Freshman who mostly closely approximates Frost's offensive need, or a redshirt Freshman who nearly approximates that need, or a Sophomore with minimal D1 experience, but who is a pro-style QB not a spread QB (he is as slow as a dairy cow). All three were 4* QB's top 150 players coming out of high school in California. Our running back situation is a bit of a mystery; we have four returning veterans, one of whom may be a medical hardship scholarship depending on outcome of examination after Spring. One of whom is tough but slow as molasses, one who is a senior who just never took off, and one who is a local kid who rushed for 2915 yds in his Senior year of high school (Jaylin Bradley) and has had a year in the system. We also are bringing in a JUCO, and two high school RB's who have a lot of promise. At wide receiver we have Stanley Morgan who is returning from his record setting Junior year, and will break all career receiver records this year at Nebraska. J.D. Spielman who set Freshman records for receptions at Nebraska, Tijon (The HC we don’t speak of) a top 100 player entering his Sophmore year, and a bunch of newcomers. As I mentioned before the offensive line is mostly veterans, but they have under-performed as a group who is mostly 4* ranked recruits. BAD BAD coaching mostly to blame, but you can't not also blame the kids and their attitudes. This is what MUST change if this team is to progress. Defensively our biggest issue was that we changed to a 3-4 last year, and Diaco simply didn't believe in putting pressure on opposing teams, he wanted to play protect and stop long gains. It was the worst defensive performance in 56 years for Nebraska. Many things will be different this year, though we will stay with the 3-4 scheme. If you watched any of UCF's defense for the last two years, you'll note that Chinander's defenses are pretty aggressive. Our CB's and SA's will be changing from a technique perspective as well as the fact that we are now going to look for a different body morphology, returning to the taller rangier defensive backs that we had previously preferred. What we are truly missing is a CAT linebacker who is capable of playing as we want them to be able to play. We might have a couple of redshirt Freshman who may fill the bill but we don't know. Possible starter is one of this group; Guy Thomas RFR, Alex Davis JR., Ben Stille SO., Caleb Tannor TFR., Sedrick King SR.. Our DL is experienced and returns in force. The Davis brothers are physical freaks, Olympic level discus throwers, who will enjoy having a more coherent defensive plan. Mick Stoltenberg returns at NT, but we expect that Damion Daniels will push him, as Daniels is a more prototypical NT than Stolt who physically would have been a better DT. There are some quality back ups for the DL. At Dog, one of our better defensive players returns from injury; Luke Gifford. Luke can even play some CAT if need be but shouldn't be tasked for it. He is a speedy kid who is a transitioned safety. At the ILB, we return Senior Dedrick Young for his 3rd year as a starter. On the other side either highly recruited JUCO Will Honas, Avery Roberts or Andrew Ward. Their is a lot of depth at the inside linebacker position. At Safety we return Senior Aaron Williams, another of our better players, and a series of others who all have starting experience: Antonio Reed, Marquel Dismuke, JoJo Domann or a series of new recruit faces and a four-star transfer from Mississippi Breon Dixon. At corner we return Eric Lee, DeCaprio Bootle, and Lamar Jackson, each has been good or bad historically but have consistently had poor coaching. Again there are a lot of new recruits as well including a highly ranked JUCO that we expect to see immediate playing time; Deontai Williams who will probably play more nickel back initially.

Hopefully, Nebraska's offense will need some time to learn the new system...

I think the QB that wins the position in the Spring is Tristan Gebbia the redshirt Freshman, I think that Adrian Martinez the true Freshman early enrollee will be 2nd. I would have taken Adrian instead, but he was injured for most of last season, though he did play in the Under Armour All-American game and played well. Tristan Gebbia was a 4* player from Calabasas, Ca. who threw for over 5,000 yds his senior year in high school. He is thought of as a Pro-Style QB but actually played in a spread in High School. He was impressive last year in the Spring Game, most of us felt he was the best QB in that match. He runs a 4.6 40yd which isn't fast, but he is able as a primarily pass first QB, to put pressure on LB's and SA's. He can get 5 to 10 yds running but not a threat to house it. Gebbia can thread the needle with his passes. www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=211447094&DB_OEM_ID=100Adrian Martinez is a more pure spread QB. He was out his entire Senior year with a shoulder injury suffered in August camp. In his Junior year he had completed 220 of 366 passes for 2,562 yards and 25 touchdowns, with just four interceptions. On the ground, Martinez ran for 1,462 Yds and 14 touchdowns, with an average of better than eight yards per carry. A 4* top 150 recruit, he was committed to Tennessee but changed to Nebraska, he was recruited heavily and had offers from Alabama, Auburn, Oregon, Miami and 21 other schools. Had Martinez not set out last year I would be more supportive of him starting this year, he is a very mature kid for somebody who just graduated from HS in December. www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=211690427&DB_OEM_ID=100
