Me being a big defensive type, I wanted to give some credit where credit is due. This is just my point of view.
Vic Koenning is one of the best defensive minded coaches at the D-1 level and has helped to produce one of, if not the best defense in the Sun Belt conference. It has been a long time since Troy has had a defense like this. With that said lets step behind the scenes and talk about two coaches that I feel has helped to create one of the best defensive fronts in 2017 that has been able to play each and ever week at a high level. "AT A REAL HIGH LEVEL". That would be Coach Lesley and Coach Bam. Coming into this season my thought were our defense would fall short of what we had in 2016 and would have a real tough time get back to that. Boy was I wrong, they moved two or three players around to suit their needs and look what helped. Each and ever week they get better and better and you can see it from the stands and the way they play. To me this is just great coaching when it comes to assignment football and leadership up front. A lot of times these man that are coaching and playing in the trenches do not get the credit that they are due. So I would like to say to Coach Lesley and Coach Bam thanks for all your help in creating one hell of a defense in 2017.
Coach Bam:
Bridges has stepped up and has played at a high level and with Reese backing him, I feel only good things will continue to happen at that Bandit position.
Seth Calloway being moved from a DT to a DE was one of your best moves. He started off slow due to the position move but boy has he turned in on. He produce each and every week and looks to be one that will continue to get better as the year goes on. He could very well be a player you help to go on to play at the next level. Barker is a another great move of yours due to him also being a DT that you help to move outside as a DE. I feel he is also the type of player that will get better and better each down. "Great job Bam"
Coach Lesley:
In the middle is where the rubber meets the road and boy do you have three of the best you can put there. Lets just talk about Sanders DT/NG, he is a beast up front. When he first came alone I was not so sure about him. His get off was a little show for the D-1 level but with you coaching and mentoring you have produce a player that I feel will play at the next level. The kid is good at what he does!
Poole is another inside player that could easily be your starter. He is a beast also and it is hard to have one great player at DT/NG but to have two. You have done a great job with him also, you have the best one two combo maybe in college football. These two could have played anywhere in the country but I am thankful they are playing for the Troy Trojans.
Stadom has been moved around a lot over the years, first playing outside as a DE and producing well at that spot and then being moved inside as a undersized DT. With that said in the past two years you have helped him become one of the best DT in the Sun Belt Conference. The 2017 year has been his best year yet. Each and every time he is on the field you can see the improvements. He is a playmaker and one you can count on each game. "Great Job Lesley"
Like I said Coach Vic has done a great job but without these type coaches and coaching these type players in the trenches, a lot of the battles would be lost.
Great Job Coach Bam and Coach Lesley, proud to have you coaching the Troy Trojans!! Giving Credit where Credit is due!!
