When did Troy start using this phrase? I know it's from the Shakespeare play Julius Caesar, but I'm trying to recall when the PA announcer at Troy football games began doing this as a pre-game tradition? I can remember it being used in 2006, but not sure if it was used prior to that...

I don't remember when the tradition began, but I sure do like it. It is one of the most dramatic pre game rituals I've ever witnessed. I wish that all TROJAN fans would make a point to be in the seats 40 minutes before kick. In addition to their being able to experience the dramatic beginning of the day, 15K - 20K Trojans screaming HAVOC! at the same time would be awesome. I'm pumped and can't wait to hear:
And so, with mighty warriors clad in strongest armor and well prepared to receive the lot dealt by fate, the contest is at hand. And the commanders sprit, ranging for revenge, shall, in a monarch's voice, cry HAVOC, and let slip the dogs of war.

I've been to Troy games since 2001 and they've been doing it as far back as I can remember.

I love it so much and hope the Cry HAVOC phrase takes off that my new TROY tag is CRYHVC My wife's car is tagged 1HAVOC, my truck is tagged 2HAVOC (you, by the way, beat me to CRYHVC, lol). Last season there was a couple sitting in front of us at the games. Their daughter is a student at TROY and she frequently sat with them. At one of the games when the Cry Havoc! happened and the crowd joined in, she turned and asked "Is that a thing?" I answered " Its a growing thing". She grinned and said "I like it." As we win over the students, the nation grows. Let's all cry "HAVOC!" every chance we get. We need to make it as recognizable as other school's battle cries/greetings.

ABSOLUTELY, I say LOUD and OFTEN! Years ago the subject of "inventing" a 'thing' and someone stated that you can't "invent" a 'thing', they just happen. Well, I believe HAVOC is the 'thing' and it is just happening!

I use #CryHavoc on most of my Troy posts on Twitter. I think it could and should be our rallying cry, much like War Eagle and Hail State. It is wholly unique to Troy.

I know when I got told them what I wanted and they said it was available I almost fell out. I know I cheesy grinned right there in the DMV. They asked what it meant so I taught the whole DMV the significance of what it means.

They should put that on their neck bumpers. A big trend this year has been for teams to have "raised" wording on the neck bumper. Cry Havoc would be awesome there.

I love it so much and hope the Cry HAVOC phrase takes off that my new TROY tag is CRYHVC I'd like to see the TroyAthletics and TroyFootball twitter pages begin to use #CryHavoc similar to "War Eagle and "Hail State", like someone previously mentioned. If the official twitter accounts use it, you will begin to see it take off quickly. I also like the idea of giving the football team the nickname "The Dogs of War." That would be very unique for Troy. This has a chance to be a new great tradition for Troy football if folks can begin to latch on to it, especially Troy U.
