Troy baseball is coming off one of its most impressive seasons in 2013, achieving a Top 25 ranking for the first time on the Division I level. One of the biggest cogs in that success was Danny Collins, who was eventually drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates. I caught up with him at the 20th Annual Wiregrass High School Home Run Derby in Rehobeth on Feb. 1 and asked him a few questions regarding his past season and what's ahead for him in 2014. JW: So how was the first season in the minors? How is it different from Division I college baseball? DC: It was fun, but it's definitely different. It's a dream come true. It's not just a game anymore -- you're playing for a paycheck. You get one day a week off, and there's definitely some wear and tear on the body. JW: You had such a great season for Troy, and the program got two big wins against Alabama in the Tallahasee (Fla.) Regional. Did some momentum carry over to your minor league season? DC: Yeah, it did. I hit a home run in my first at-bat, and I hit four in my first six games. After that, I didn't hit. My body fell apart. Every guy is a Friday night guy. ( Full Article) iconTroy3
