I'm calling bunk on this. We are way better than that. Last preseason, I predicted we would go 11-1 in regular season. I just missed. This season... I'm going all in. After carefully examining our 2017 schedule last evening while boosting my intellect with The Macallan 12 year, I am calling 14-0. That's right, National Championship!

I prefer the Glenfiddich 15 myself. Awfully good dram. What region is the Macallan from? As for ESPNs FPI ... I think 76 is maybe 20 spots too low. We are really, really green (though talented) at linebacker. I can see us getting back in the Top 25 as the season progresses, but we have some serious holes to fill on defense first. Bringing back 100% of our QB, WR, RB, and TE production (100% of yards produced) will be a huge boone. The good news is that Boise is losing way more key players than we are. I've read from a few different sources that this is the most turnover they've had in 10 years. We can catch them early in Game 1. We might be able to grab a W, and it won't be because we overachieved or snuck up on them. I think we're on their level, honestly.

I'm hoping we can go a day earlier to get accustomed to that hideous smurf turf. A young man I coached here started three years at OT for New Mexico and he said his first trip there it really threw him off. We could really make some noise to start the season off with that win. Go Troy

My favorite of all time is Lagavulin 16 year, which is an island Scotch. On to Troy football... I'm not kidding when I say this team can go 14-0. The schedule kind of pops out with if you win this one you are unstoppable. I'm glad we have Boise as the first game. It will be a challenging game but totally winnable even with rust and early season issues. Winning that one sets up confidence and we roll in to Baton Rouge undefeated with a (The HC we don’t speak of) on our shoulder. We win that one as well. So... at that point, we have the thought of "Why not us?" and we win the rest of our schedule. We get a bid to the final four and we beat Bama with heart and determination in round 1 and then we simply make Ohio State look silly in the championship. It's all possible.

The two linebacker spots are completely gone as all four in the two deep were seniors. 6 of our top 8 tacklers need to be replaced. 1st Team All-SBC and Defensive Player of the Year Rashad Dillard, and Junior Gnonkonde have graduated. U. McGhee who was next in line to start at either DE or BANDIT has transferred to Alabama State. We have talent for sure, but we lack experience and will need to develop quality depth at LB, DE, and BANDIT. Those guys will not be easily replaced, miscues are probable especially early in the year.

I agree we need to fill spots due to players graduating and one or two transferring due to they could not play at the D-1 level. Starting with LB's, first off Labbie was moved to where he was recruited as a 4 star player to play. He has great speed and I will bet money he will be as good or better then what we played with last year. Smiley being the other LB and with a nose for the ball and not to skip his speed, he will be one of the best moves Neal will make all year. As for the bandit spot we will be a little young there but Zo will do a great job when it comes to the pass rush and helping with run. He will be a player to watch all year progress. DE spot will be shored up really well with Calloway moving outside. He played the last three years as a undersized DT and he was one of our best run stoppers in the middle, being double teamed just about every play. Now that Neal and Vic has moved him outside it will free him up to also do what he was recruited to do. Look to see him be more productive on the outside then he was on the inside. He will produce big at that spot. With that said I feel and this is my opinion, we have filled most of what you stated as serious holes. I look to see Vic work to make sure that the backups are couched up with lots of rep in the Spring and Fall so the two's will be ready to compete at the same level as the one's. With all that said the Trojans should have the best or one of best front six defense in the Sun Belt Conference and they should be able to compete with anyone we play in 2017. Again this is just my opinion but makes for great conversation.

Is Rasool Clemens here for spring ball or is he a fall guy? Haven't heard much about him this spring. I'm curious what kind of impact he can make.

Last scrimmage I was at Clemens and Lucky were working in the number 2 spot as DE's to help with the depth. Still looks very young but hope with the reps both will get better. Him and Lucky will be the future.
