TROY – Jo-El Bennett’s baseball career looked very promising coming out of Houston Academy three years ago. The Pittsburgh Pirates selected the outfielder in the 11 th round of the MLB Draft, but Bennett opted to join the rising Troy Trojans baseball program that has seen its fair share of draftees over the years. His Trojan career has not turned out the way he has wanted to so far, but Bennett knows what needs to change – his mindset about pressure. “ I just need to come out here (to the field) and have fun,” he said. “I think that was my problem my first two years – I was putting a lot of pressure on myself to perform. I just think I’ll come out here and have fun and let the chips fall where they may.” Bennett’s career started slowly as a freshman – posting a .226 batting average. He warmed up as the season progressed, though, as he hit .263 in conference games with six doubles and three homers. ( Full Article) iconTroy3
