By Jeremy Wise TROY – For all the Troy Trojans accomplished on the baseball diamond in 2013 – earning the program’s first-ever Division I Top 25 ranking and reaching an NCAA Regional final – players still want to accomplish more. And that’s despite winning two games against Alabama in the Tallahassee (Fla.) Regional, including one with a dramatic ninth-inning rally to reach the regional championship game. “ That was an exciting time for us. The ultimate goal is to win the regional, though,” pitcher Shane McCain said. “I feel a little sour about (losing) that. I’m ready to get back for another opportunity for that.” “ I think it carries a lot (of momentum), moreso that we didn’t finish how we wanted to,” pitcher Tanner Hicks added. “I think that carries more meaning for us. We want to go somewhere that no Troy’s team been.” The Trojans took to the field for the first official team practice of the spring Friday to work on accomplishing more goals. To go where no Trojans have gone before, though, will require them to replace a ton of offense and some quality arms in the bullpen. The Trojans lost four of their top-five hitters last year, and the three players that were drafted – Logan Pierce, Danny Collins and Trae Santos – combined to hit 61 doubles, 37 homers and drive in 201 runs. That’s production that is not easily replaced, but Trojans head coach Bobby Pierce said he believes some players are ready to fill those voids. “ We like our team. We really do,” he said. “Now is it going to be ready Feb. 14". ( Full Article) iconTroy3
