By Jeremy Wise TROY -- When hoping to continue your team’s second multi-game winning streak, facing the team picked to finish last in the league in your home gym sounds like a good recipe. For Troy Trojans head coach Phil Cunningham, that is not exactly the case as his team prepares to face the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks tonight at 7:30. “When I saw ULM was predicted at the bottom, I thought that was a huge mistake,” Cunningham said. “They’ve done a good job recruiting, especially in the (junior college) ranks. They’re long and athletic.” The last statement poses Troy some issues, the coach said. The Trojans (7-9 overall, 2-2 Sun Belt Conference) are not the tallest team in the league, ranking seventh in the 10-team league in rebounding. Meanwhile, the Warhawks (4-7, 1-2) are second with nearly 39 rebounds per game. They also rank third with 7.2 steals per game. Leading the Warhawks in scoring is 6-foot-7 forward Tyler Ongwae, who averages 14.4 points per contest and also pulls in 4.8 rebounds per game. He is followed by 6-foot-4 guard Amos Olatayo with 13.9 ppg and 5.7 rpg and 6-foot-6 forward Jayon James (10.6, 6.8). “They match up really well with us. We’re not gonna beat you with our size,” Cunningham said. “We’ve got to be the hungriest squad on the floor.” ( Full Article) iconTroy3
