Troy Trojans
Troy picked up a two-game sweep in Arkansas last week, taking down Arkansas State and UALR in back-to-back games.
The Trojans got out to a hot start against the Red Wolves on Thursday, behind hot shooting all around. Tevin Calhoun was the star of the show, scoring 35 points on 11-of-15 shooting (7-of-9 from range). Calhoun became the first Trojan to score at least 35 points since Brandon Hazzard had 35 against Western Kentucky in 2009. His .778 3-point field goal percentage was the highest by a Trojan, with a minimum of seven makes, since Boo Ramsey shot 7-of-8 (.875) against Arkansas State in the Sun Belt Tournament in 2006.
In all, the Trojans would go on to shoot 14-of-27 from beyond the arc, tying a Convocation Center record for most made 3’s by an opponent. UALR held the previous record, set in 2001.
The 98 points by the Trojans were the most against a Division I opponent since scoring 102 against Western Michigan in 2010. It was also the most points that Troy has scored in a regulation game against a Division I opponent since 2008 and the most points against a Sun Belt school since 2006.
Troy would follow up that performance with a 75-62 win over UALR. The first half was a back-and-forth contest, but Troy pulled away in the second half to take the 13-point win. Jeff Mullahey led the way in this game, scoring 17 points, grabbing nine rebound and dishing out four assists. Mullahey also shot 3-of-5 from beyond the arc against UALR. In his career, Troy is 9-5 when Mullahey hits multiple 3’s.
Troy picked up two road wins on the week, after winning just two total road games last season.
Last year, Troy won back-to-back Sun Belt games twice. Both winning streaks involved a school from Arkansas and both involved ULM, the team that Troy will face next.(Full Article)
