Both Troy and Western Kentucky feature two of the Sun Belt’s top defenses, so fittingly, the Trojans are concerned with slowing down the Hilltoppers’ scoring ability. There’s just one problem – WKU (9-5) features several different players who can take over a game. Three Hilltoppers – T.J. Price, George Fant and Trency Jackson – average in double-digits, led by Price’s 17.2 points per game. A fourth player, Chris Harrison-Docks, averages 9.8 points per game and hit a late shot to lift the Hilltoppers past South Alabama Thursday. So who will Troy try to neutralize during today’s game? All of them, Trojans head coach Phil Cunningham said. “They’re so balanced. You can’t focus on just one of them,” he said. “You have to be solid on all five spots on the floor.” Fortunately, the Trojans have shown signs of being a great defensive team, Cunningham said. The stats somewhat bear that out as the Trojans rank fourth in the league in scoring defense at 68 points per game and are second in field-goal percentage defense. But if one thing really concerns Cunningham, it is the size WKU has on the perimeter. “Their perimeter guys are physical. We have to match their toughness,” the coach said. ( Full Article) iconTroy3
