Troy Students and fans - claim the title Seven Nation Army - push it out all over social media and everywhere you can think of - grassroots style - get it everywhere - I'm talking from inside the stadium to in a sign behind Corso's head wherever GameDay sets up from here on out - Troy's Seven Nation Army can become our "12th Man" Claim it - Do IT!!! #troy7nationarmy.

I'm genuinely curious. Why should the fanbase be called the Seven Nation Army? I could get behind it, but I need some understanding.

I like Trojan Empire or simply "The Empire"...
I often tell my friends who are of the other 2 persuasions that "the sun never sets on the TROJAN EMPIRE!"

Don't over think it guys. Need a simple product that's easy to use, easy to understand and easy sell to an at-most moderately informed customer base.
Simple marketing concepts with a simple application that lends itself to social media driven marketing.
Song is already in place which makes it easy - Easy to "plug and play" around the sound (think jump around at wisc) - Easy fold into Trojan warrior themes - army of warriors- The average fan has no idea any of the history of the trojan wars (other than a horse, Helen and hector and what ever else they learned from the Brad Pitt movie)
Just an idea - but we need to have something that capitalizes on the growing buyin from the students. For it to work it needs to be simple, easy to understand and even easier to implement - and above all it needs to lend itself to a hashtag and social media.

That song is already WAAAAAAAY overdone and cliche now. Trojan Empire is a much better choice. Or The Legion.

Our students went nuts with that song - why not try to seize on that? The "Legion" concept died a quick death a few years ago when the SGA tried to construct and push that. "Trojan Empire" - Has been a phrase used for at least 10 years but has never caught on. I also agree with some of the other posts I have read about the "cry havoc" phrase. We need to work that in more as well.

We need to work that in more as well. It's been years since I could visit the campus. I had no idea about the Trojan Empire or The Legion, but the 7 Nation Army thing just seems off to me. It doesn't really tie to anything and it feels like that "Winged Horse vs. Trojan Horse " idea with Mid. Tenn. How about just "The Trojan Army" or "The Infantry"? I agree that it has to be simple, if it has to tie in with the Trojan theme as well. "Cry Havoc" or just "Havoc" really need to be worked in more.

Some of you are totally missing the point. This all started at USM when we basically took the song that they played and took over the stadium with it. After the song stopped the people in our section kept it going. The players turned around, saw what was happening, and went nuts on the sideline. There's no need to try and make it fit with history or mythology. Just go with what works naturally.

How about no. "Seven Nation Army" came out in 2003. The reference is already outdated. Just because they sing the song in the stands doesn't mean we should name a part of our fan base after it. By that standard we'd have to call them the "Queens" if they ever joined into a the chorus of "We Will Rock You."

Will that please you? I don't care what you call them. As long as they are pumped and into the game you can call them mmmmmmbop.

That isn't what the thread is about. It's about naming a cheering section after a song. Is Virginia Tech's student section called the Sandmen? Wisconsin's the Jumpers? They can play and sing any song they want, but let's don't give them that for a name.

I have no problem with not liking someone's suggestion, but at least offer something in return. There maybe an alternative to be offered or found within that type discussion.

Here's a great idea. How about letting the people cheering to the song name themeselves, if they chooose to do so, as opposed to people not in attendance naming the group.

I'll offer something in return. I realize that what I'm about to write probably doesn't apply to 90% of the frequent posters here but we can influence those to whom it does apply. A common thread in the three videos Hemi posted is that fans were in the stands. Whether it be pregame, like VA Tech, or in game like WI or the Steelers, we have to have fans in the stands for any kind of mass uprising. We have a really good pregame with the SOTS and the "cry havoc" oratory, but few experience it. Much like the fans at a Dodger baseball game, our fan base comes late and leaves early. We need to encourage our fellow fans to enter the stadium early, (40 minutes before KO gives 15 minutes to go to the latrines and get settled in seats), participate in making noise, and stay for the game. As as to naming a section for a song, I'm ambivilant. 7 Nation Army may be dated, but the hottest song on the chart today will be dated by next year's opening game. If it works, use it, if not, don't force it. We need willing participants, not a bigger hammer.

Can I be the jerk that mentions copyright laws?
No idea why "The Legion " movement died other that SGA wanted it to be a paid club and never advertised it

I'm for anything that puts butts in the seats I am too, but I doubt a certain song being played or what the student section is called will specifically bring people in. Any new tradition will become reality by it growing organically and it not being forced. And the students being involved is huge.

I don't care what they call themselves, all I know is our students are being loud and proud and I give them a high five from all the way in Cent FL. Go Trojans!!

I was in school when the Legion started. It was goofy considering "Legion" brings an image of a Roman Army, not Trojan. Then I remember around the time I graduated another group called the "Archers" started which I think worked a lot better name-wise because an archer provides support for the ground troops. Then Troy hit the skids in 2011 along with student support.

Sanctimony on a public message board, who would've guessed? I did offer suggestions and they were both shot down. At least my posts were on topic.
