I like that we are developing a spirited rivalry with USA. I'm a little confused about the 6 year graduation rate they cite for both schools. Do only 37% of people graduate from USA in 6 years? As the comments say these facts are not exactly vetted.

FYI: College graduation rates for the student body are universally low...Athletes have a higher graduation rate than regular students - they have to graduate where as the lowly student spends most of his time chasing tail down at the Front Porch or getting reading for formal at Lake Eufaula.

You don't get 10k+ and all those students to an away game if it wasn't your hated rival

I STILL don't like calling them a rival! And you know what else? Even though I disagreed with others about it I never called anyone slow or dim-witted.

Overall Graduation Rates can be a bit deceiving. The way it is for Community Colleges (and I'm pretty sure for 4-years as well) ... the rates only look at "first-time, full-time" students. So, only those students who enter as freshmen who take at least 12 hours of courses each Fall/Spring with no break. So, for instance, if a student (maybe someone paying their own way or with family issues, etc.) needed to take a semester off to work, or they wanted to drop down to "pt-time" like 9 hrs for a semester, etc. ... they no longer count toward the the graduation rates ... even if they have 4.0 and eventually graduate with honors. That's why, typically, athletes will show a higher graduation rate. Just like students on any kind of scholarship ... they are required to be enrolled full-time, continuously.

They were a rival before they began playing football, our most hated rival in baseball. I believe it is natural that it has/will continue to grow(n) into a rivalry, now that they are a legit FBS program. Rivalries are whatever the two fan bases make them and this one is taking shape to be a nasty one soon.

The one true blue Troy rivalry will always be Jax St. My first visit to Troy was the Jax St football game in 1985 and i fell in love with that rivalry. We don't play them in football anymore but every other sport it's Whup Jax St. I remember a standing room only basketball game in Sartain (2,500 plus) against Jax St when I was a student. I hate that school and always will hate that school. If one of my kids earned a scholarship there I would disown them. Whup Jax St and Go Troy!!!!

They don't have a thing we have in football. They don't have the conference titles, national titles, or bowl wins. They got into one bowl game and lost. Somebody made that horrible, ugly belt and now we pretend that they're an equal? It only helps them. They would be happier if we didn't exist, and we're giving them a hand. They have two wins in our worst years ever and now claim they've caught up to us. I'm all for revenge but not for this rivalry stuff. Sure, I want to beat South, but only in the way I want the team to beat anyone else. Are we rivals with Clemson? No. Are we rivals with UMass? No. So we're rivals with a <10 year old program because of a map and an ugly belt? Let me ask you this? Would you be happier if Troy won that game for the next 20 years straight? I don't know...people might get bored with it and attendance for that game might go down slightly. Or would you be happier if South won half the time so it will remain "a really intense rivalry" so people will keep talking about it and people keep showing up? I know my answer, I want Troy to win every damn time by as many points as possible. But it's okay, you can keep your rivalry and hideous belt.

A few examples: Vandy vs Tennessee, Kentucky vs Tennessee, Iowa vs Iowa State, Oregon vs Oregon State, Texas vs. Rice, LSU vs Tulane etc. Again, the fan bases dictate if two teams are rivals. I believe Thursday's game is a strong indicator that Troy and south are rivals. The Jax State rivalry WAS a good one but it is gone in football and will likely never return. Fans need rivalries and tend to create them when they can.

Reminds me of the NO Bowl when we played Rice, met some Rice students in the Krystal on Bourbon St. after the game and we kind of told them their team sucked and rather than defend it they launched into how great their graduate program in science was compared to TROY's....we didn't really understand especially since they were Chinese and were grasping at straws and this is the same with South...their team is in last in the conference so go after tuition cost and graduation rates....whatever brother, pretty much pathetic losers riding a sinking ship.

They were Chinese, even if they were at the game they were only there because their American friends were. They had no idea what was going on on the field, much less any way to defend their team's lack of performance.

Chinese American with bad broken English, but they weren't exchange students.....take it easy there Lee Harvey, also why are you defending some kids from Rice? It ended ok, no one went to jail and they started by making fun of my buddy and fellow TROY graduate and veterans limp as we walked into the place.

I was just making conversation and I get called Lee Harvey? I wasn't defending anyone specifically from Rice, besides, you buried - actually outright withheld - the lead about them making fun of your friend. I live in Asia, I work with Asian students and adults every day, and I think I have a pretty decent understanding of their views on life in general. With or without making fun of your friend, they probably didn't know a blessed thing about American football and didn't know American sports smack talk when they heard it. It would be like using physics to insult a redneck.
