The Troy University baseball team will enter the 2014 season receiving votes in the Collegiate Baseball Preseason Top 40 poll which was released Friday. The Trojans finished 2013 ranked No. 23 in the same poll. It was the first time in program history that the team ended a season ranked. Troy finished last season 42-20 playing Florida State in the finals of the Tallahassee Regional. The defending Sun Belt Conference regular season co-champions return 19 lettermen including 2013 Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year Shane McCain, who went 9-1 with a 3.48 ERA in 16 starts. Eight-game winner Tanner Hicks also returns along with senior Will Starling. Highlighting the four returning offensive starters is first team All-Sun Belt shortstop Tyler Vaughn, who batted .327 with 20 doubles and 26 RBIs. Head coach Bobby Pierce is set to begin his 11th season at the helm of the program. Under, Pierce, Troy has won three conference titles and made four NCAA postseason appearances. The Trojans will open the 2014 season with eight straight home games beginning with a series against Northern Kentucky set for Feb. 14-16. iconTroy3 Source: www.dothanfirst.com/story/troy-receives-votes-in-preseason-baseball-poll/d/story/I-KU5VzRRE2qwO5c7phz2Q
