I think this is a good game for us. I'd rather have NC State or a weaker ACC or CUSA schoolbut this is a game we should win against a MAC team. As it is it feels like the Sun Belt could be surpassing the MAC if we haven't already.
As for the City of Troy, first off, while Crowe's has never really got me that excited, Mossy Grove Schoolhouse (is it still open?), Sister's, and my traditional gameday bbq potato from Hook's (they're originally from Opp, I know, but it's amazing in Troy as well) are all culinary experiences I get excited about. Haven't been to the Square in a while.
Troy itself is not an exciting place. Its bucolic nature is at the heart of its appeal really. But it's true there can't be many visiting fans getting excited about it, even though we do have good turnout for competitive teams within an easy drive. Heck, if it wasn't "home sweet home" I wouldn't get excited about it except for Hook's. BUT - if I had to make a three-day weekend out of it, I'd be looking at visiting Montgomery - capitol, Hank Williams Sr., civil rights sites, Confederate White House, and so forth. Plenty to make it fun.

Actually happy about this announcement. Akron isn't a bad place. You are a stone's throw from Cleveland, which I think gets an unnecessary bad rap, and can see some sites. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is awesome. Agree. A good home and home. Decent road trip.

Pike County is a diseased zit in the middle of nowhere. Geez...this should really help our recruiting efforts! Good grief, to the life of me I just can't understand what got such a sophisticated man of the world to lower himself to bless Troy with his presence and everlasting degrading of our town. You could have been the toast of the Big Apple, the Windy City or heck....maybe even Hollywood. You must have fallen on really bad times about your senior year in high school to drop so far as to have to associate with such ignorance and commonest. Were you not afraid that experience might stifle the expectations of your pedigree?

As son of an ex-Army soldier who did not have any money to provide to me for a college education, I did everything on my own. Troy gave me a chance. Troy gave me the opportunity to travel a great many places and reap the awards (including monetary). Stay real. Stay happy. March on.

I would have hoped that in doing so, you might have picked up a tad of humility for others in the process. When you attended "the school I love" you went to school with other students, kids that came from the same type small uncomplicated Alabama, Florida or Georgia towns as Troy is. Same make up, same values, same beliefs, same concerns. A new person to those towns may not understand them, may not find a nitch that they are comfortable with but that doesn't make the people nor the town wrong or bad. Just like the Mexican, Libyan or Muslim population assimilating here. They need to adjust to US, not the other way round and the same might be said about going to a college town. Having been in a service family you probably traveled a lot, got to see a lot of places, experience a lot of things. Be thankful for that and relish the opportunity you had but DON'T let it make you appear as though you resent a town or its people who hasn't done those things....and frankly may not want to. You have your values from your experiences, small towns are made up of people who have theirs. You ought not hold them to your standards any more than they should hold you to theirs. Just live and let live and enjoy the journey! My home town has one red light and is as country as you can get but I do love those kind of people. Unlike the city, if you need them they are there for you but they differ in what they see as important. Like I said once before, I'm sure many in Troy would be just as happy if the university was somewhere else. That's their right. You have to work around it by bringing in those that can be reached but I can guarantee you one thing, badmouthing them won't make that happen, neither will it help us recruit others here and that includes athletes!

I'm from Sarasota Florida, a very culturally diversified city with some of the top ranked beaches in the world. I came to Troy as a student 26 years ago and fell in love with it. I love the small town atmosphere, so much so that when I graduated from Troy that I had to down size and move to a little town called Highland Home...Don't laugh...We have a IT DON"T MATTER RESTRAUNT! Point is believe it or not there are thousands and thousands of people living in huge cities that would love to live or at least spend a few days in a friendly, laid back small town in Alabama called Troy

Akron leads Marshall 41-21 at halftime. We'll need our big boy pants for this one.

Akron leads Marshall 41-21 at halftime. We'll need our big boy pants for this one. 31 players from Florida and some from Georgia. They are doing a great sales job to get these kids to go 1,200-1,500 miles away to but cold weather. He is also doing a great job in state and Pennsylvania

Never said college football town. There is some nice stuff to see there for a road game. You can also visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton maybe a 20 min drive away. Agree Troystet, it would be a good road trip, could also take in the Rock and Roll HOF. I am hopeful that the game is early in the season as it can get COLD in Akron once November rolls around!
The only thing I hate is that we lost our home game with NC State, really disappointed we won't be hosting the Wolfpack in Troy. This isn't the first time that has happened to Troy, Iowa State comes to mind. I know they will owe us money but I had much prefer to host a game against a Power 5 Conference team and fill up Veteran's Memorial Stadium!
Go TROY!
So why'd NC State pull out of our game?

I don't know a Bowen but a Bowden I believe is due for stated whoopin facebookthumbup Let me tie it in a bow for you: 2006 and Troy goes into Tallahassee and led FSU 17-14 in the 4th qtr with about 2 mins remaining. Former HC has sons that coached. One is the head man at Akron...revenge by proxy...easy peezy. And to make it worse, Bobby Bowden, whom I respected a lot at the time said, "had we lost that game (Troy) it would have been the most embarrassing loss of my career"! Not a word from him about give the boys from Troy a lot of credit for playing their hearts out. I was totally disgusted at his comments then and haven't seen him in the same light since!
