Just announced home and home with Akron. Excited for this game because I was born in Akron and have family there. This also will draw pretty good. Akron has something like 30 players from Florida on its roster, 4 from here in Ocala. This will draw some fans to see these players close to home. Great schedule pick up and Akron will be a nice trip for Troy fans in 2019. 40 miles from Cleveland, and Goodyear, General, and BF Goodrich all left one tire factory standing you can see along with the soap box derby downs and the Goodyear blimp hangar.

Oh Boy, let me tell ya. When I think hoppin' football towns, Akron is the first one that comes to mind. Never said college football town. There is some nice stuff to see there for a road game. You can also visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton maybe a 20 min drive away. I love Troy but I don't think any opponents salivate about a road game here although we do have the Pike Pioneer Museum, Crowe's chicken and the Front Porch. Part of the fun of road games for fans is seeing sites in that town. Akron has about 350,000 people plus the suburbs, great restraunts, and pro football started just up the road in Masillon-Canton area. It's also well worth a short trip to Massillon to see Paul Brown Stadium (20,000 seat HS stadium) and their indoor practice facility the Cleveland Browns rent from a HS. Massillon-Washington High vs Canton McKinley High is the oldest HS rivalry game in the country. A lot of football history in the area and Mount Union College (D111) dynasty is in Alliance about 20 min away. It's worth the road trip just to visit the HOF

I am hopeful that the game is early in the season as it can get COLD in Akron once November rolls around!
The only thing I hate is that we lost our home game with NC State, really disappointed we won't be hosting the Wolfpack in Troy. This isn't the first time that has happened to Troy, Iowa State comes to mind. I know they will owe us money but I had much prefer to host a game against a Power 5 Conference team and fill up Veteran's Memorial Stadium!
Go TROY!

Rock n Roll HOF worth a visit also and you can also see Lebron James house in Bath Township right out of Akron. It's a site lol. My cousin actually lives just down the street and complains about cars driving by to see it.

Is anyone staying downtown Cleveland? Maybe we can tailgate. Stay in Akron. A nice area is called Montrose. Plenty of nice Hotels, restraunts etc. Akron U. Is right downtown Akron and they have a on campus stadium. Not sure since its been 11 years since I was in Akron but I'm sure there are hotels nearby also. It's a large school of around 30,000 students.

Oh Boy, let me tell ya. When I think hoppin' football towns, Akron is the first one that comes to mind. You lose comparing Akron to Troy. Yes Akron is a run down old Rust belt town but it has nice areas and a few cool attractions. Pike County has a lead plant, polluted soft water, a helicopter on a pole, it has zero attractions. Opposing teams fans hate coming to Troy or don't come at all due to this. This is reflected by the low visiting tickets sold. Pike County has the best university in the World ( the Troy State University) and Crowes chicken. Two things.

I believe Austin Peay brought a respectable crowd, as big as one might bring when the program is year in, year out. FCS bottom dweller. Georgia Southern, South and ULL have all come in droves in the last two years. If you would come out of the urinal long enough to notice, you might be surprised by what you see.

Sips, Dolce, Milky Moos, and even Mommma Goldbergs. Great food all in a different style. Maybe your tastebuds are off from constantly sniffing urinals.

Problem is you disparated a road trip town without understanding your Pike County is a diseased zit in the middle of nowhere. Those in glass houses should not throw stones.

I think Akron will bring a decent crowd. I counted 32 Florida players and a couple from Georgia on the roster. Parents can make the trip to Troy by car instead of the 1,000-1,500 mile drive or expensive flight.

Former HC has sons that coached. One is the head man at Akron...revenge by proxy...easy peezy.

Never seen a town hate the biggest contributing factor for its existence like the city of Troy and Pike County. Again don't try to knock one of our road trip cities without taking a look at your own. Actually happy about this announcement. Akron isn't a bad place. You are a stone's throw from Cleveland, which I think gets an unnecessary bad rap, and can see some sites. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is awesome.

I just don't get it. While true that Troy isn't a thriving metropolitan area like say...Chicago, it has its charms. Over the past 21 years I've traveled to multiple locations following the TROJANS. My favorite trip, by far, was to Athens to play UGA. We stayed in the small town of Madison, roughly 30 miles from Athens. We had a wonderful dinner at a local restaurant (not a chain) and spent the evening walking around, visiting the shops downtown. Not only was the evening a relaxing one, we were able to take in the local color and enjoy the culture. Madison, I would guess, is considerably smaller than Troy. There is no doubt that a visitor to Troy could spend Friday night on the square and enjoy all the things about Troy that we did about Madison. I understand that not everyone wants to spend an evening this way, and that's ok. But to say Troy has nothing to offer visiting fan bases is a crock.
