By Jeremy Wise jwise@dothaneagle.com When the Troy women play host to the Florida Gators today at 7 p.m., Trojans head coach Chanda Rigby will be worried about a few things. First, the Gator outside shooters can be problematic. The SEC squad has two players, January Miller and Lily Svete, that are shooting better than 40 percent from behind the arc. Then there is the guard play. Point guard Jaterra Bonds leads the team in scoring with 17.1 points per game. But the main thing Rigby might be focused on is getting her offense to play consistently. In three wins, the Trojans are averaging 98.3 points per game, but they average 75 in their three losses. “It’s our consistency. We want to score 15 points every five minutes, which is a pretty high (clip),” she said. “Saturday against Jacksonville (an 82-67 loss), we went 12 minutes without a bucket. We must work on staying consistent.” This is not the first time Troy has played host to an SEC quad in the new Trojan Arena. The men defeated Mississippi State last year while the women took an 80-71 loss to Alabama. The Troy women also have faced the Gators before, losing 87-62 on the road last year. Rigby said Florida returns several players from that team, which reached the Women’s NIT semifinals last year. That experience could play a factor for Florida against Troy today, Rigby said. “They have a mature team. They’re very purposeful on offense,” she said. “They’re more of a finesse team. They have very strong guards off the dribble.” ( Full Article) iconTroy3
