Seen this on the SOTS Facebook page. The SOTS was invited to Troy's football practice and got to listen to Coach Brown thank them for their hard work. The football team then attended the SOTS rehearsal and got to see the pre game show and the players cheered along and sang the fight song with the band. Then the coaching staff served the band members ice cold watermelon slices during a break and the football team and band got to socialize. I am blown away by Neal Brown and the difference he is making in discipline on this team. From the team helping students move into the dorm, to wearing slacks and sports coats at Trojan Walk, to this. If you are not behind Neal I suggest you get behind him because he is doing the right things with the program and these players. I'm even prouder to be a Troy Trojan. Go Troy!!!!

As a SOTS alumni I can tell you that I can't recall Larry Blakeney doing this ever. Coach Brown is really first class.

I love this ... it's great to build that "one team -- one family" idea. Obviously Coach Brown understands that in this day/age, you have to get out there and build that ... even on your own campus. In defense of LB or other coaches who might not have done something like this (and I don't recall Coaches Gailey or Rhoades doing this) ... it surely doesn't mean they weren't "first class". It's just a different time ... different mindset. I'm sure the earlier coaches expressed appreciation to the SOTS ... at pep rallies or homecoming, etc. Also, when a team is winning ... it's "assumed" the campus is with you. Coach Brown understands his first task is to get students on board. Like when he first go here and he went around campus introducing himself and inviting students to come support the team ... that's huge! I worked in politics ... it's amazing what a difference you can make by personally inviting someone to do something!! Again, just more evidence that Brown is the guy we needed to hire for this time! BTW ... love the SOTS!! Only bad thing about playing ... was not getting to watch the Band!! Thanks for all the time/effort you guys put into our University and the gameday experience!! Go Trojans!

My daughter did SOTS her first two years but her scholarship is four 4 years and she had to drop band to get her degree in 4. She graduates in May with a Biomedical Sciences degree. She has told me that things are night and day different since Neal came. You don't see off field problems, players are more respectful, they are in class, and the campus attitude towards the football program is dramatically improved. Discipline can't hurt you, it can only help you.. Looking forward to the first game and seeing our players dressed for success at Trojan Walk. Go Troy!!!!

I just don't want a negative connotation with our alma mater.

I just don't want a negative connotation with our alma mater. I seen Navy do that after we beat them in 2012. Some schools do the Alma Mater win or lose.

I think it was time for a change, but let's not forget that Larry Blakeney is Troy Football! I'm forever grateful for what he did for our school.

CLB got soggy, lazy and complacent. * Should have it been done earlier instead of letting him hang on in order to max out his state retirement ? Yes. How many years did this this decision place Troy behind the curve ? ..... Years. * Is CLB a living legend for bringing Troy out of obscurity and building the foundation ? Yes. * Will the Saint and his crew be drinking good whiskey tomorrow ? Yes. TROY !
