"(Head coach Neal Brown) gave me a plaque (labeled) ‘Outstanding Walk-On’ on the defensive side of the ball, and then he told me to turn it around,” Johnson said. “Scholarship earned.’ It was amazing. I told my parents. They were astounded.” Several walk-ons endure the same amount of heat and stress during practices that players on scholarship do – all without the support of an athletic scholarship to pay for college. Johnson and Dye said dedication serves as the key to accomplishing what they did on Monday. “One word – fight,” Johnson said. “Because we don’t get treated like scholarship players, you just got to keep your head up, just keep working hard every day, and it’ll show.” dothaneagle.com/sports/troy/dedication-pays-off-in-troy-scholarships-for-dye-johnson/article_7f842de2-5ab8-11e6-9831-cb825b04b326.html?mode=jqm

Walk-ons have always been a integral part of Troy football. Tyler Clark was a walk on who ended up starting 45 games and earning 1st team all sun belt at two different positions. I also played with two of the all time Troy greats and HOF inductees in Mike Turk and Freddie Thomas. Both came to Troy as walk ons. Congrats to Johnson and Dye, you earned it.
