The Trojans announced Monday that former North Carolina defensive end Junior Gnonkonde has joined their squad for his final season. Gnonkonde, a graduate transfer, will be immediately eligible. Gnonkonde played two seasons for Trojans defensive coordinator Vic Koenning, who previously served as UNC’s defensive coordinator. Koenning said Gnonkonde adds plenty of skill to the Trojans’ defensive line. “He’s got exceptional strength. He’s every bit of 275 pounds and 6-foot-3, maybe 6-4,” Koenning said. “He goes hard, does everything you ask him, and he speaks several languages, so he’s got a high IQ.” Gnonkonde had solid success in three seasons for the Tar Heels – which fell by eight points to national runner-up Clemson in the ACC title game last year. www.dothaneagle.com/sports/troy/troy-adds-transfer-defensive-end-junior-gnonkonde-from-unc/article_d757febc-582a-11e6-b0b7-27469e7514b2.html?mode=jqm

Awesome!! I look for the Defense to be very, very stingy!! As an old coach used to say ... If they don't score, you can't lose!! Go Troy!!

Excited about our team in general and really look forward to this D - if the O can get rolling, lookout - we will be very, very tough to beat especially at home
Little worried about depth at running back - can anybody shed light on newcomers - know that Chunn, Flakes, Anderson are back but who's next in line? Anyone know how the QB competition is going - is Branson being pushed at all?

They both have top shelf speed. Sawyer Smith is really talented, but unless Brandon Silvers royally screws up, he will start every game this season.

I agree but IMO if Silvers starts struggling you will see Smith get a nod. I don't see Neal putting up with the offense struggling in year two jmo.

My guess is that they hope he can be available, in spot duty so that they can redshirt Sawyer.

I found the information. Dual-threat! Nice! What are the chances he'll play as a change of pace to use his 4.46 speed?

Silvers likes to run, occasionally, so I think it'll be more like Hemi said, mop up duty. But, I'd like to think he could have some plays, like Deon Anthony, to open this offense up a bit more...Give me that 'Air Raid' folks keep talking about!
