Per Jeremy Wise, QB Ramsey Rigby is transferring and WR Payton Carter has left the team. Carter was a walk-on, not sure about Rigby. That leaves us with two QBs on the roster.

I completely understand Rigby leaving. After watching spring, he never got a fair shake to compete with Sawyer for QB2. It seemed as if Sawyer was already enshrined as QB2 the minuted he enrolled, leaving Rigby to basically never learn or compete. That's just my opinion, but its based on observations

Or the coaches watched and decided that Sawyer was the better QB and wanted to give him more snaps. With only 3 QB's you got to give one of the back ups the majority of the back up snaps and hope he developes quickly.
I think going with the guy that looked best early and hope to redshirt the other was the correct way to go.
You never know. Football smarts, attitude, football ability, football study ability, all play a part.

Smith was the prize of the recruiting class. He was the QB we wanted above all others. He is the future.
Rigby was signed as a backup, and was likely to remain one for his career. Nothing wrong with that, but that is the facts. If he wants to go to Gardner Webb, by all means, let him go.
We all know that 2016 is Brandon's team.

I hate that for Rigby - guess that makes office a little stuffy but here is hoping for success to him in the future

Seems some kids don't want to work and earn playing time. One spring does not decide your career. I think they just think they are entitled to playing time. This is the second qb to transfer after early enrolling in spring. Sorry guys, you earn the right to start and play. Also many things can happen. Levi could have transferred coming out of spring 2008. What happened? Two went down, he got his shot and made history.

Could be several other factors in Rigby's decision

True. I just wish they would get a fall in before making a decision.

Either way, a 17-18 year old who early enrolls, goes through 15 spring practices and makes or has a decision made about his career is foolish. Positions are earned in the fall, not the spring

Guys... Ramsey Rigby left because he felt like his playing style was better suited for a spread option offense, and not a high-octane pass attack like Troy has. Rigby is a QB that likes to roll out of the pocket and have the option to run or throw while he's on the move. He's not a shotgun passer.
Gardner-Webb runs an option offense, which is one reason he transferred there. It had nothing to do with him taking snaps as a 3rd string QB this spring or because his parents wanted him to transfer. He said he was thankful for his time at Troy and praised the coaches for helping him become a better passer over the spring. He said he has no ill-will for Troy at all.
I wish him nothing but luck at Gardner-Webb and hope he wins an FCS title with them. He definitely has the talent to do big things there.

I COMPLETELY agree with your observations and also wish for him a great career at GW. However, his dad was a smart successful head football coach at the school where he was QB and I'm sure with his mom here, he saw a ton of Troy games and I'd bet he was aware we recruited Smith so if that was his skill set and would only play QB, why bother to come in the beginning? Assuming he/they were aware of those things and having that father with that kind of expertise, you would think he might already have come to that conclusion. Had he chosen earlier (high school), it might have allowed us to pick up another QB that might not be available now. It also might not change anything so here hoping he throws a ton of TD's at GW!!!

He will also be eligible immediately transferring down. Wish him the best. I still don't understand two early enrollees bailing after one spring but such is athletics in this age

I don't worry about great kids as they are like cats and usually always land on their feet. For them,a change of direction doesn't mean that the first was a mistake but that it was used to gain prospective for the next one.....Climbing the wall of life is rarely a straight path.Glad he came to Troy and added a little mortar to our wall.
