How do we lose a game to Samford? We just can't drop a game like that when they are someone that we would compete against to get recruits. Our record looks much better this year compared to last year, but our quality wins are zero. Our best win is against UAB with an RPI of 62. Does anyone know what is going on?

Lack of hitting and pitching. Sorry it's pretty simple. Your a softball alumni. The talent level on par with level/record we are at ?

I watch all of the home games online and listen/follow stats on the rest of the games, and I can not figure this team out. Batting averages and power have improved, but it seems like our pitching and defense are worse. We lost a very good pitcher to graduation, but I thought Rainey would return to freshmen year promise. I am guessing her arm is just worn out since she is pitching the majority of innings and they are trying to save her for conference games. I watched the Troy vs South Carolina game on SEC Network+ with commentary, and they dropped three fly balls in one inning (embarrassing). The JUCO transfers are about the only people that can hit consistently and both are gone next year (Benton & Day). I wonder if the coach is content with scheduling the easy teams and looking decent on paper or if she is mad and telling the girls to step it up. I don't have any inside information, and I was hoping some fans up in Troy had been at the park or been around the team to see if she is trying to get more out of this team or are they content with their 25 wins against nobody.

If the talent is below the teams we are losing to then you have a different set of problems.
If the talent is above where we are currently, might have a coaching problem.

Seriously? Troy softball is 57-38 in the last 1 3/4 seasons. In the two season's prior to this staff, Troy went 43-62-2. Don't even try to start a conversation about coaching. That's just asinine.

The former softball player....who deserves our respect and who obviously knows the game, made some observations and asked a question. Her observations was this 1) while the record is improved we have no wins or series wins over good teams. We lost to Marshall, lost to Ole Miss, lost 8-0 to Bama, lost series to Ga St., got swept and out scored by ULL 27-1 in the series, lost to SC 8-0, lost 8-1 to Auburn 2) she observed that our defense has gotten worse. She didn't know why the younger players aren't stepping up and she made a observation about our pitcher being worn down do to what she sees as lack of pitching depth. She asked from people that have seen games why? Out of respect for a former player, she wanted some observations? That was all

But my experience with athletics is at some basic level you either have a talent issue or a coaching issue. If your talent is subpar to the teams you play, chances are you cannot play above your talent for extended period of time. If you have talent but are losing to similar talent over an extended period of time than chances are you have issues with coaching. A lot of factors but at the basic level this holds true. Again don't know about the softball team but I was trying to assist the softball alumni with her questions and analysis about why the team was not performing.

A good example of this is the men's and women's basketball teams of this past year. Womens = talent and coaching = winner Mens = talent on team no way reflected the record, coaching is an issue.
