Appalachian State slips past Troy 75-71 Associated Press
TROY, Ala. -- Frank Eaves scored 18 points, hitting all seven of his shots from the foul line, to lift Appalachian State past Troy for a 75-71 win Thursday night.
Jacob Lawson added 13 points and Griffin Kinney hauled in 10 rebounds to go with nine points for Appalachian State (6-14, 4-5 Sun Belt), which shot 48 percent from the field and hit 8 of 14 from long range.
Troy (6-15, 1-9) erased an eight-point deficit late in the second half to tie the game at 68 on Jordon Varnado's tip-in bucket. Eaves then put the Mountaineers back on top for good with a 3-point play with 1:37 left. A pair of free throws from Eaves and Ronshad Shabazz down the stretch sealed the win.
Wesley Person scored 22 points for Troy, John Walton III added 18 and got 11 rebounds. Varnado finished with 10 points

Is anyone aware that Alabama State (4-13) and Alabama A&M (5-10) have higher RPI's than Troy??? Troy literally has the worst basketball team in Alabama according to the RPI.

Women's team has lost four in a row also. Men's team is 1-9 in arguably one of the weakest D1 basketball conferences in the country. But good news Trojan fans, we are drastically improved and we now have the finest graduation facility in the Sun Belt.

But we still have the talent to win. We can get on a winning streak, win our remaining games and finish above .500. Setting up us winning the Sunbelt Championship next year.

Until either of you are at all home games and watching live, do not talk smack. Leave your all knowing castles and come here and support the team you bad mouth. I am sick and tired of hearing all this whining from a bunch of fair weather fans who are so pathetic they have to hide behind a computer and act like they know it all. I dare you to try and do what Cunningham or any coach here does and then tell me that there job isn't more than winning.

I don't hide behind a computer. what is pathetic is fans like you who accept losing. Accepting mediocrity is one of the reasons we are in the shape we are in. Coaches are paid very well to win. What is the reason behind 99% of coach firings??? Not winning. And stop with this you don't attend the games crap. Some of us live 12 hour round trip from Troy. Sorry we can't whip up for a midweek game. Just because you live close doesn make you any better than the rest of us

Okay #1 I never said I'm better than you but if the shoe fits I'll wear it . #2 along with wins idiot, player development and preparing these kids for life. #3, I do not except mediocrity, however if we all had your thinking we should S*** can a coach after a bad year. You idiot it takes time to build something from nothing and yes you will have speed bumbs. Look at any program that wins and you will see a history of people who jump ship and people who support, a history of wins and losses, one bad season doesn't define a coach being tossed flat on his A**. #4, I'm a student here so it's easier for me to see and actually hear the players during the week. They aren't happy but they know they have to find a way to win and close out games. And last but not least #5, stop being a whining cry baby who lost his toy, grow a pair, be a man, and support your guys no matter what. Have a nice day Go Trojans!

Year two was worse than year one, year three is worse than year two. You have a different idea of improvement I guess. Improvement is improving your record year over year. And I'm a grown man son, not a 19 year old that thinks he knows it all. I support the players, I don't support a coach who is paid very well to win games and doesn't. Learn about life. Your job you will get, you will be expected to perform and do what they are paying you to do. It won't matter how nice you are or how well liked you are. You don't perform, you won't have that job

I dare you to try and do what Cunningham or any coach here does and then tell me that there job isn't more than winning. I'm at the most of the home games. I'm at a considerable amount of the away games. I never have said or implied I know it all, but I do put facts out there. The fact is, Troy is statistically the worst D1 basketball team in Alabama. You can look for yourself at NCAA.org. We have the worst field goal %, 3-point field goal %, free throw %, turnover-to-steal ratio, the lowest offensive rebound %, and the worst RPI out of all the D1 Alabama teams. That's not a good sign! Cunningham has indicated in a few recent press conferences and in the Sun Belt teleconferences that his players aren't trying their best. He's indicated that he has a lot of players that don't hustle as much as they should and aren't gritty enough. So whether that's a coaching issue or a player issue, or both... you can decide. As far as Cunningham's job, yes there is more to his job than winning, without a doubt. But likewise, I dare you to tell me that wins/losses don't carry a lot of weight in a coaches job duties. There are many coaches around the country that are great at helping to graduate their players and teaching life lessons to them, yet most are being relieved of their duties because they can't win games. It's part of the job description and part of the expectations of taking the job. If a car salesman does well at every aspect of his job except meeting sales goals, and struggles to meet his sales goals for months, don't you think he'd likely get fired for not meeting all the requirements of the job? If he didn't get fired, he would certainly be on the hot seat. Same with coaches.

The world is not all gumdrops and unicorns. Just because someone can't be at every home game doesn't mean they don't have a right to express their viewpoint, regardless of its positive or negative. Coach C understands the position he is in. He understands this DI BB. You win, you get the rewards. You lose, you get the heat. He is a big boy, he understands and can take it. Something is not right here. A lot talent in this team. When you already have 15 losses and are last in the Belt, supporters are going to have issues with that. When you get a real job, your boss will not wait around and let you keep failing regardless of the reason, it his job on the line too. This is just real life. Suggestion, instead of coming in going full attack mode, remain positive and try to convert the supporters that you see as negative to your viewpoint.

We are all passionate about Troy. I enjoyed a time of tremendous success during my days at Troy...1986-90. Two GSC football titles, one national football championship, two national championships in baseball, final four in basketball, golf national championship. Hoping to get back to championship level

About the game, 12 missed free throws and 2 turnovers in the last minute while trailing by 1 point is why Troy lost. At one point early in the game Person had 13 of the teams 17 points and he rest of the team was shooting 1-16 shooting from the field. We are depending on a freshman and sophomore to carry this team. They have the talent, but it's my opinion they are pressing too much and they just aren't ready, mentally, to carry this team. Others have got to step up and contribute on a consistent basis. I think Phil will feel some heat, without a major run in the last ten games. I also think he deserves year 4 to prove his plan is going to work, or not.
As for firing and hiring people, it's a one man show. It will be a one man show until he retires. Hawkins has done great things for Troy. He's also a well known micro manager. We've lost a lot of good people for that very reason. I have a strong suspicion that's why Hartwell left when he did.

"About the game, 12 missed free throws"... I am curious about the problem regarding FTs. Can anyone on this site share any insight into how FTs are incorporated into the practice schedule? When I was in school, FTs came at the end of practice and you keep shooting until you hit twenty in a row OR reached one hundred attempts. Needless to say, THAT produced some excellent FT percentages in game situations :-)

His focus is on building a global brand which is not bad if your a international business major but how does that help athletics or the biggest major at Troy..education. I hear stories from my daughter about cutbacks on campus and in certain departments...most notably Computer science and biomedical science. Troy is heavy in debt right now also. These new buildings and dorms came with a price. Hopefully he comes to realize that his main campus is his most important and school pride and winning athletics go hand in hand

Cunningham gets next year period I would agree with most of you that this year has been a very big disappointment I would also agree that our team is much more competitive and Cunningham, albeit young, has built some depth If you have not seen our guys play, we have spurts of what appears to be a very good basketball team and then spurts of who are these guys. Some of that IMO is the youth of this team. Considering where we were last year vs. this year, we are better and so is the Sunbelt Cunningham gets next year regardless
