I hope that over the years I've earned a reputation here as one who is reasonable. I hope I've garnered some respect and therefore am one to whom you all will grant a little latitude when it comes to subjects I post about. With this out of the way, here goes. This is my granddaughter, Ava. In this picture, she is checking out her new baby sister. At the time this was taken, she wasn't too sure she was happy to have a new sister, but she has since come around and is quite the little mommy. Ava is almost 3 and she has Down Syndrome. I post this today because October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month and I hope to raise your awareness a little. DS occurs when one is born with 3 copies of the 21st chromosome instead of two. People with DS will experience physical and mental developmental delays that vary in degree of severity. Some are profoundly impacted, others obtain college degrees, are gainfully employed and fully independent, others fall in between the two extremes. DS impacts the lives of those like Ava, but it doesn't define who they are. Some of you know people impacted by DS, perhaps some of you are impacted by DS personally. If you don't fall into one of those categories, I hope this post will increase your awareness, spark your interest and perhaps spur you to become active in supporting those impacted by DS. I appreciate your indulging me and allowing me to use this forum for an intensely personal reason. Go TROY, and let's Rebuild the Wall.

Bubba, we are brothers as alumni as well as brothers of family with special needs. I had a nephew with several birth defects and a form of autism. Doctors said he probably wouldn't reach his 1st birthday. After numerous surgeries, he lived for 27 wonderful years. He participated in numerous Special Olympics and blessed us with a lifetime of fond memories. I know the unconditional love you feel and I would be honored to meet you and your grand at a future game.
Trojans one and all!
