Good morning Trojans!
Some fellow Eagle fans and myself are throwing around the idea of making the trip out to Troy to catch the game in November. So we're trying to plan for the trip. What kind of advice or recommendations can you guys give us?
I can get a corporate discount through my company with Marriott but the closest Marriotts look to be in Mobile. I can make that drive if we really need to, but I was wondering if there might be something a little closer that still wont break the bank.
Game day tailgating. If any of you made it out to Southern last year you know its a big thing for us. And for a 3:30 game we'll need to get started early! What are your game day morning traditions (do you have a favorite place to eat breakfast? There used to be a place in Statesboro called Snooky's we used to love to eat breakfast on game days) and where should we park/tailgate and what are some rules and regulations we should be aware of?
I know the game is quite some time away, but I like to be well prepared! And I've been looking forward to visiting Troy for a long time. When I played the ncaa football games I played as Troy in dynasty mode (won a couple NCs) and my old band director in high school played for the Sound of the South. He always talked them up big and played their CDs.
Anyway, thanks for the info in advance and I look forward to the game!
Go Eagles!

There's a Marriott in Troy and Montgomery
Mobile is almost 3 hours away. That's a haul
If you book the Marriott in Troy I would advise you do it now... Hotels in Troy sell out in advance
For food try the Half Shell for seafood... Sweet rack rib shack or Hooks for BBQ. Sisters on Sunday brunch is a MUST.
We have several chains as well. Santa Fe Stays open late after games but ours is a early game so your good.

Ya Montgomery is about 40 mins away so not bad... Best Western in Troy is where I stay. It's very nice and new. About 90-100 bucks a night.

There's a Fairfield inn and suites in the eastchase area. It's on berry hill rd I believe. Super easy to get to Troy from there. A lot of food choices as well.

There is a Residence Inn in Dothan, about 50 minutes from the stadium. That is a good option if members of your group want to room together and save some cash by cooking a couple of times rather than eating in a restaurant. It's a little more trouble, but might fit your needs.

The game against your team is our 50th Anniversary Celebration! Let your old band director know! The Alumni Band is performing that day. Have a safe trip to Troy.

Lots of hotel options around EastChase and Chantilly Road in Montgomery. Quick drive if you can't get rooms in Troy, which might be likely due to the band reunion weekend events (I'll be participating). But, I live in Pike Road, a suburb of Montgomery, and drive to each game. It takes us 35 minutes to get to Troy.

The Microtel in Ozark is always a win. Its about 30 mins outside of Troy on the Dothan side (we drive in from Georgia). There are several other hotels in Ozark also worth looking at, including the Baymont. All inexpensive. We pay around $60-$70 a night when we go.

I can't wait for that. I'll be sure to shoot him an email. btw, I got curious and did some digging around on the internet and totally found an old Troy yearbook page with band pictures he was in! Not going to point him out, but if there's any other SotS members from back then, take a look at this: link

Tailgating. Lots of folks, corporates etc set up on Tailgate Terrace, just outside main entry to Stadium. You'll not find the vast spread of tailgates that we witnessed in Statesboro last year.. But several are very welcoming and hospitable to fresh meat, er, uh, worthy opponents!!! We are hosting and holding hostage a couple Eagle Alums at our tailgate, high school chums who got sidetracked in their search for higher learnin'. Menu includes marinated Eagle Drummies, and pulled, smoked Eagle with Trojan sauce!! Complete with plenty cool, refreshing beverage and smart water to ease the pain. smiley-eatdrink009 All Eagles welcome!! PM me for time/location.

Are Visitor section seats General Admission? I want to buy through GSU, but I want to make sure we can all sit together. Should I wait until everyone in my group can get me money and I can buy a group of tickets, or will everyone be fine buying separately?

Section 105 is usually the visiting fan section. It is a reserve seat section. Section 103 next to it is GA. Based on what I feel you guys might bring numbers wise section 205 above 105 would be a good choice. It is also GA.(general admission.)

What part of GA are you traveling from? If South Georgia - check out the State Park in Fort Gaines, GA. I lived in GA just east of Tifton and when I would go to Troy night games prior to moving to AL, I would stay there. It puts you two hours closer to home if you live in South GA, three hours including the time change.

The gps has us coming through Columbus at something at like a 5 hour trip.

I would try Marks BBQ for dinner then go to either the Brass Parrot or Lesters Flat for a drink.
