Best Troy D I have seen in years!
Offense still needs to improve, esp QB & OL!
Koenning has done an amazing job with this Defense...

Agree. It was a nice showing for sure. Hopefully we can really take it to USA in 2 weeks.
Offense will get there I think. Wisconsin has some BIG guys on Defense and that had some to do with it... I think they will be fine with more equal competition.
Wisconsin beat Miami Ohio a MAC school 58-0 Last week.
Teddy Ruben has some NICE catches today, I like what he is bringing!

I'm still really, incredibly proud of this team. Love the mindset and atmosphere that seems to be surrounding the them. Really happy CNB is at the helm and has things going the direction it is. Hope to make the trip up to Troy on the 3rd. GO TROY!!

The last possession of the 1st half was awful for players and staff, but I already have a thread about that. The rest of the game the D was pretty darn good. I thought the OL was a nice surprise considering Wisconsin's size.

Granted we were outweighed but there were time I feared for Silvers health. He had almost no time to throw and took the worse beating I've seem him take. Defense was MUCH MUCH improved. Isn't it nice to see deep throws against us and see a Troy guy right there on him? No wide open 40 years down the field catches! These coaches are getting us going in the right direction but it is a work in progress.

I thought the defense looked very much improved. No really long runs, we actually had decent penetration on the line. Our pass defense did an admiral job against the short and long passing game. We really stayed in there and fought. This game was much closer than the score showed. A few breaks and it would have been a different game. Silvers looked experienced yesterday missed his mark a few times but the O line looked outmatched and gave him no time. I was very happy about the variety of plays called and the tempo on offense. For the first time in several years it appeared that we were there thinking we could win and play to the wire rather than just pick up a check and take a tour of the campus. This program is going in the right direction!!

We talked about that during the game and commented that their QB had all day to throw and Silvers almost none and it seemed size was the factor in both. Silvers made a few areant throws but the way they were hitting him it understandable. Wer're getting better!

We didn't connect on any long passes. There were at least two that would have been touchdowns but were overthrown. Had we connected the game would have been a lot more interesting. When Silvers was sacked and fumbled the ball on a good drive in the third quarter it kind of took the wind out of Troy's sails. Troy was moving the ball and certainly looked like they would score. I think that turnover turned the game and gave Wisconsin the break they needed to put the game away

All valid points. NB stated that they were better than us and they were. That is no slight to this team. I do believe that with more time with RH in the weight room, the stronger version of this Trojan team and O Line puts them in a better position to succeed. Now, as for my correlation to the 2006 edition of the Spread, Troy began the season 1 - 4, with a memorable trip to the Doak...a drubbing in B'ham...Leodis containing Megatron...and the Cornhuskers. This team may lose another game, but that's all because they're determined to do it. And that is no slight to the former coaches, sometimes it's just time for a change.
Looking forward to the potential.

You are correct on the pass rush, I was thinking more on the several stops on the line and in the backfield vs their running game.

Nebraska was really good back then, GA Tech had CJ and FSU being FSU, UAB was tough and everyone was banged up and some suffered some real serious injuries...2007 was even tougher with Arkansas, Florida, UGA, and OK State...these games are brutal but make us tougher. I truly believe that's the reason why Troy was so dominant in the SBC in the past. We were almost part of the SEC/ACC with these schedules. The 2007 team would have beaten NC State and Wisconsin.

I don't mean to sound negative with this, but I'm not sold on Silvers as QB this year. I know he may be the best option right now, but I don't see a lot of dynamic playmaking ability from him like we saw in Levi Brown, Corey Robinson, Omar Haugabook, etc.
I believe he's got the talent though to be really good...

Totally agree with you Hemi.....Silvers is a very solid quarterback and by Junior Senior years will probably be outstanding......having played college qb be it ages ago and watching the feet and arm slots and time for delivery at QB Silvers is the guy for this year......We did overthrow a couple of long ones that probably with Bryan would have been exactly on the mark......however if wishes were fishes we would all be eating tuna........We are becoming a fairly good team and I really enjoy seeing some of the younger guys contributing.....as far as comparing presently to Brown and Robinson they were pretty good.....and Silvers will get better too.....as to Omar....several things going for him.....The spread was pretty new and we were one of the first around to run it......and Omar was deceptive in stride with really good speed that had a lot of guys taking bad angles....he looked like strolling but was gliding along that helped....as to throwing he was not too good.....ok would be more like it.....but with the new spread and his ability to get space it worked really well but his arm slot and mechanics to throw were really not great.....but getting the job done and competing he was great.....for bad mechanics look no further then Phillip Rivers.....did pretty well for kind of weird motion...

I think it is unfair to compare Silvers to Omar, Levi and Corey while he is still at the beginning of his career. I think he needs to make quicker decisions, that's the main issue. He will do fine vs SBC teams. He is more mobile than Corey and Levi and pretty accurate overall. I think he will be a great QB for us in 1 or 2 years. Currently, I would even rank him higher than Corey and Jamie when they were Sophomores here.

I shivered every time W nailed him and they did a lot!

What stinks is they should have redshirted three OL last year that they burned a year of eligibility having them block on PAT and FG on a 3-9 team. Boring would only be a sophomore had they done that. Group will get better. Lawrence is our 6 th different center in 6 years and we haven't had a center that started two consecutive years since Danny Franks 2007-09

Someone questioned me earlier, and then deleted it, about my previous post. I think all the players names in jthat post are talented and very good players. My point was more in comparison to the group of receivers Corey had available to him his freshman year. That was a very talented and veteran group of playmakers that could help ease the growing pains of a freshman quarterback.

Except the other two threw for 1,000-2,000 more yards a season. Completion rate is misleading from last season. Me and you could complete 20-25 bubble screens a game. Difference between the stats is the vertical passing game. Omar, Levi and Corey threw it down field with more success. Levi had a great OL. In 2009 he had Danny Franks, Tyler Clark, and Steven Adams who had played beside each other for three seasons. Playing together for several seasons is huge on the OL.

He (Silvers) is a RED SHIRT SOPHMORE, while I'm not ready to crown him the "Greatest" TROY QB of the D-1 Era, I am very pleased with his play. He needs to release the ball quicker, "feel" the heat better/quicker and get a healthy Brandon Holmes and you will see the vertical some talk about. He "just missed" Benjamin and Queensbury on two different plays that were FOR SURE 6 points. Had that been Holmes, we may have had a different story. Also, his running game has to help. While watching the tape, I saw SOOOO many times where one broken tackle (which I think we will make in Sun Belt play) would have been a MUCH different story.
Both 15 and 32 had chances for huge runs, just a millisecond slow, late, short, or it would have been a story changer, IMO.
Our O-line gets MUCH BETTER in 2 weeks with Lassiter coming back and the competition not nearly as talented as NC State or Wisconsin. All should help us be much improved and ready for a big conference run.
NOW is the time to take that next step, conference play, and make our mark on the season.

Not going to get into the comparison game, as CR hard to beat in the early years, and Levi type QB is my favorite and had he been the starter for 3+ years I think not many could touch his numbers.
With that being said, VERY excited thus far with the current direction of the program. Like that if team rules broken players suspended, hate that those who have been obviously have not bought in just yet, also, like what I see. Might not be this year or next, but watch out we are headed back to the top!
