I know this is a subject every year and I have always thought we didn't have parking problems....till now. It is so bad that I'm actually worried about my daughters safety. She lives in Trojan Village and is having to park two blocks away by some schetchy apartments. She works till 9 pm some nights which puts her home between 9:30-10:00. When they built the new alumni hall the parking spots got reduced from 200 plus to 40. They have way more residents than parking available. The school told the students to park by the Arena and walk. First if you park there with a resident permit you get ticketed, secondly I'm not having my daughter walk 20 minutes in the dark at 10 pm. This is utterly ridiculous and a safety issue. Does anyone else have students in this same scenario???

I saw a segment on the news that said no on was using the lots by Trojan Arena. Also said that they'll run shuttles if people start parking over there. When I was a freshman at AAMU, we weren't allowed to have cars if we lived on campus...maybe that's something Troy needs to look at pretty soon.

Parking has always been an issue. At one point I gave up and just left my car on fraternity row and walked to class everyday. Since your daughter is a commuter I believe there are some parking spots near the football score board. Student don't like that area because it's a long walk but from what I remember there are lights to and from that spot. Hope that helps.

The Arena is fine for comuters but not on campus residents. At night it's a problem for a woman. She shouldn't have to park across campus and walk 20 minutes to her dorm at night. Something needs fixed

Sorry...if you stay on campus, you should walk to class. That is one of the main reason all the parking spaces are unavailable around buildings...I bet there are plenty spaces at the dorms not being used.

That is one of the main reason all the parking spaces are unavailable around buildings...I bet there are plenty spaces at the dorms not being used. She walks to class and has a bike also. That's not the issue. The issue is there are no parking spots available at her dorm or nearby. The new alumni lost 200 spots also which makes it even worse. When she goes to work she has to drive and when she gets back at night there is nowhere remotely close to her dorm to park. Alumni is parking by TV also and the gravel parking lot by Long Hall is closed. I was in Troy this past weekend and there were no spots by her dorm for me to park on a weekend . This is not safe for women at night when they can't park close to the dorm. You wouldn't want to have to park 15-20 minutes from your house or apartment at night

If you have a room, you should have a space...if SWAT (campus police @ AAMU)ticketed anyone for parking in someone else's space at the dorm, you couldn't get your grades until you cleared your balance. At the end of the day, there will be growing pains that every student won't be able to avoid. I hope your daughter catches a break with this issue.

What is causing this problem is the new Alumni. They built a dorm for 400 students with 40 parking spots?? Don't know how they thought that would work

I've always said the same darn thing about hotel rooms. EVERY room should have an identified parking space for the guest in that room.

It's going to take one female getting attacked to wake them up. My daughter is in her third year on campus and she is afraidl. This is ridiculous. She gets home from work at 9:30 pm and drives around for another twenty minutes trying to find a parking spot remotely close to where she lives and has to park three blocks away at at a shady apartment complex and walk alone in the dark. Maybe if it was Hawkins daughter he would be concerned instead of telling you to park at the Arena and walk twenty minutes in the dark and hope you don't get attacked, robbed or raped. Or maybe if she was Chinese Dear Leader would make changes.

Not going to happen. Until the lots they are talking about being unfilled are filled, they aren't going to build more. There isn't a parking issue as much as a parking convenience issue. Students have to be willing to walk. Troy is not a big campus at all.

If a woman has to walk in the dark in an already shady enough area, it's not ok.

What made a bad problem horrible was the new Alumni Hall. They lost 200 parking spots when they built in. 400 person dorm with 40 parking spots. Who thought that would work. So now you have the new dorm having to try and park by a already full Trojan Village. The Trop just ran a story. They are expecting 7,000-8,000 parking permits issued and there are only 4,100 official parking spots. Commuters should be forced to park at the Arena...period.

I commuted four years and parking was a problem. It's not that every student is lazy, it's that there aren't enough spaces. I got six tickets in one semester because I parked in a "resident" spot at the band field during classes so I could walk my "lazy" but all over campus all day long and then go to practice. Not all students are lazy, not all students are responsible, but there is a problem. I know that the arena lot is currently taken up for some kind of RV Sale? How is that fair to current students?

As long as Mrs. Dear Leader is Mrs. Dear Leader there will not be a parking deck to "ruin" the look of her campus... I have heard her say this twice.

You can build a parking deck to to fit in with the campus. It does t have to be a solid concrete eyesore... Easily put a brick façade On it and have trees and greenery all around it.
Can't look worse than some of the streets and parking lots around campus with all the pot holes everywhere

According to Student Services, there are just over 4,300 parking spots on campus. So far this semester, they have sold over 4,500 parking decals and expect to sell almost 8,000 in recent weeks. Dean Reeves and other university officials continue to spout that it is a "problem of convenience" for the students. My math skills tell me it's a problem of poor management and an inability to realize that there is, indeed, a problem.
