Troy coach Chanda Rigby and the Troy women's basketball program announced the signing of four players on Wednesday, the first day of the season's early signing period. Caitlyn Ramirez, Lacey Buchanon, Dajia Williams and Felecity Havens will all join the Trojans for the 2014-15 season.
"Troy University women's basketball took a huge step forward in signing these young ladies to our program today," Rigby said. "They are a great compliment to the good base of players that we will return in the 2014-2015 season. We just got much better."
Ramirez, a 6-foot-2 power forward, comes to Troy from Tyler Junior College. The Shawnee, Okla., native is the 23rdranked junior college player in the nation by Dan Olsen Girls Basketball Report. She will join the Trojans as a sophomore after taking a medical redshirt at Tyler in 2012-13.
Coming out of Shawnee High School in 2011-12, Ramirez was ranked as the 23rd best power forward in the nation and had an ESPN Scout's Grade of 91.
"Caitlyn is a tremendous talent and will be an impact player in Sun Belt Conference post play," Rigby said. "Post players with her size, strength, skill, and ability are scarce, and I am beyond excited that she will be in a Troy uniform battling with us for the next three years."
Buchanon, a 5-foot-5 point guard, comes to Troy from Gadsden State Community College and will join Troy as a junior in 2014-15. A Jacksonville, Ala., native, Buchanon was a first team All-ACCC selection as a freshman.
Buchanon is already the Gadsden State's all-time leader in assists and steals and still has most of the 2013-14 season to play. She nearly had a quadruple-double just over a week ago, scoring 33 points with 10 assists, eight steal and eight rebounds in a win over Northeast Mississippi.
"As an offensively minded coach, my eye is always on the lookout for a point guard that can run my system," Rigby said. "When I first saw Lacey play, I knew she had the tools to be highly successful in our fast-paced offense and our full court pressure defense. She has a knack for making her teammates play better, which is what a good point guard does. It is a great feeling to know that Lacey will be with us next season." (Full Article)
