PARAMORE: Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers need to take on TroyPhil Paramore / Eagle columnist I hope it happens in your lifetime, but unless something changes in the mindsets at the athletic departments at Alabama and Auburn, it won't likely happen in mine. I'm talking about the Crimson Tide and Tigers giving Troy football the ultimate stamp of legitimacy by playing the Trojans. No, neither will venture to Pike County -- and according to some -- nor will anybody else with a recognizable name. But in the most secretive corners of longtime Troy fans' hearts, a game against one of the most historically successful programs ever would be a major boost. Now that's not to suggest the Trojans could win against Alabama or Auburn, and right now, maybe not even be able to make the contest competitive. However, there have been seasons in the not-too-distant past in which that wouldn't have been the case. There is little doubt in my mind the Trojans of 1998 would have beaten Terry Bowden's final Auburn edition, and take your pick as to which one of Mike Shula's outfits would have suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Troy. And that's what this whole refusal to give the Trojans a game is all about -- potential embarrassment. What other explanation is plausible? Alabama plays two current Troy foes this fall in Louisiana-Monroe and Charleston Southern, respectively. Last time I went to Charleston Southern with the Trojans, the entire stadium seated somewhere in the vicinity of 2,000 with coaches left to call plays from the bucket of a utility truck. Here's a opinion from the BamaHammer website.
Should Alabama Play Troy In Football?By Charles Evans 5/12/15 Phil Paramore of the Dothan Eagle wrote this week that he thinks and hopes that Alabama or Auburn will play Troy in football, but should they? First off Paramore is being very realistic about this, he acknowledges that Alabama and Auburn are not going to be playing games at Troy. "No, neither will venture to Pike County" says Paramore. They shouldn't venture there either; Troy has in no way earned a home game with Alabama or Auburn. ( Full Article)

I think they forget the Monroe game just a few years ago and they talk of us not earning the right to play them then they play Charleston Southern. Arrogance often had no limits and often wears Red and white.. When it comes to class between the two. I pick AUBURN!

If we had Haugabook back... I'd be all for it. No bit really, I think it would be good for the state & I don't even live there!
I just hope in light of what happened to UAB they Regents sees what Troy means for the city, town, region, etc. I do sincerely hope at some point a trip to Bama is in store before I die.

I have degrees from both Troy and Auburn, and grew up an Auburn fan and still root for them against all but one opponent. I always pull for Troy, no matter who they are playing! I bring an Auburn buddy with me every time we play them in baseball at our place. I very much enjoy ribbing him when we win! As for bammer, there is no team I hate more than the crimpson tahd, except for the So Al Jag-offs!

I would classify fence straddlers as those who buy tickets to Bama or Auburn and come to Troy wanting freebies. My dislike for SoBama is mainly directed towards their fan base. They are much like their alter ego the Bammer fan. I'm not a fan of Joey Jones and Mark Calvi because they seem to display a lack of character that I wouldn't want to see in our coaches. Never really had an issue with an of the SoBama student athletes.

My dislike comes from their seemingly clueless approach to reality and a fan base that has developed a pseudo superiority complex that comes based on little or nothing. Giving them credit, hey have had a successful baseball program for a lot of years but beyond that what and the "still undefeated" fiasco in football.....really!!! They have a UA mentality with s UWA portfolio.
