I think it's the way it's stated on his Twitter profile that has caused the issues. Attachments:

What I read is that he IS a Troy Trojan and is merely a FAN of bammer football. Did I not read it correctly?
And Possum, we are Troy first at my house but, between three of us with degrees there are 8 degrees from 7 different institutions. Only 2 of the 8 are from Troy. So, should we not support those other institutions that had just as much to do with our education?

First World problems.
It is what it is. Those of us who grew up in Alabama know what it's like. Probably until I was like 10, when I first met someone the first exchange after names was "Who do you go for?" There were only two possible answers and neither of them was Troy. I grew up an Auburn fan. Way back then, Troy was playing small ball and wasn't even a blip on my radar. I'm still an Auburn fan in that I'm interested and keep up with their progress. But I never attended the first class at Auburn. My degree says Troy. I live very near campus now for the last three years. My $, my time and my support go to Troy. That's not going to change. Neither will my interest in Auburn.
That's how I roll.

He has "#TroyTrojans" on his twitter. I support him and will follow him. Should be good enough for all of us. We need more of him. Nothing wrong will being a fan/follower of other programs.
I have several cousins and brothers that attended the military academies, our entire extended family support and even give money supporting their athletic programs in their honor. I don't see this being a traitor. I support Troy first with $$$ but it's my money, I can do what I want with it. And he can support who he wants. By the way, did we fulfill the obligations of his scholarship ? I would say yes or Coach would have let him go.
I am Troy first. But nothing wrong with supporting or following other programs. For those beating on this guy, might need to check their priorities.

For those piling on the people that are Troy and Troy only, aren't you being just as shortsided as you claim them to be? Doesn't Possum have the right to say he chooses not to support someone that does something he doesn't like?
Seems to me that those who think those persons should check their priorities for having their own opinions should, in reality, check theirs.

I have precisely zero issue at all with Possum's position. None. I get it. Just offering a bit of expansion.

Are you going to stop supporting Jerrel Jernigan? He openly cheers for Duke basketball on his social media Good question. Inquiring minds want to know.

Good question. Inquiring minds want to know. I find myself trying to understand the difference between what Clint proclaims and what the girls softball team use to go during football games. My only problem with JJ's fandom would be if he never voiced his love and support for Troy sports as well Same with Clint. It does sting to have a chance to hear a top athlete that went to Troy get a chance to pay homage to his school but chooses to envolk another INSTEAD. HOWEVER, if Troy played Duke or Troy played Alsbama and JJ or Clint pulled for The other team IN ANY SPORT they would lose me as a fan forever! My daughter went to FSU and my son in law played baseball for FSU and he will tell you that I support FSU UNLESS they are playing Troy and then I hope we(Troy) beat their butts! No one pulled harder for Troy two years ago at the regionals in Baseball when we played FSU than I did. Takes courage to stand next to the "animals" and pull for the other team!:-)

I think sometimes people get upset when they think people are pointing fingers at them when in reality they are just stating their opinion. I have no ill will towards anyone for who they cheer for or against. I respect possum's opinion and I respect the others opinions. To each his own. On a side note we sat with the Animals at the regional during the first game and when they realized we were diehards they invited us to their tailgate the next morning. We were there to cheer on our team and not start trouble and we could dish it as well as take it. Ran into a few of them at Voodoo Dog a couple of weeks ago and the remembered us. Fun times!

Troy gave him his education, Alabama didn't! Troy and coach Pierce saw his talents and gave him a scholarship for that free education, Alabama didn't! Troy gave him the opportunity to play and coach Pierce and assistants gave him their efforts and knowledge to progress to where he is today, and Alabama didn't give him a darn thing. He has every right to root for whomever he chooses and we have every right to wonder why he supports a team that did nothing for him. His chance to give his school and team credit and he passes to Alabama. This is the eternal never ending frustration I feel every time I see an ungrateful graduate who chooses to support a school that did nothing for them! It's beyond disgusting ....but his right to do it! ^^^^^ This. Epidemic at Troy U. Pervasive among Troy Alums and hard for cornhole to understand. ^^^^^

My issue is with Trojans who shun fans who support Troy and other programs and with Troy students and alumni who show little or no support for Troy. I just don't think we can afford to exclude anyone who supports our programs to any significant degree! Everyone does not have to be all in but I am glad we have people like Possum who are.

What it equates to is how kids grow up in Alabama. I was standing in line at a home game a year ago and someone asked me Auburn or Bama. I pointed to the Troy logo on my shirt and went back to what I was doing. He persisted and each time I did the same. After he got on my nerves I basically told him if the clock tower or barn fell in a sink hole I'm buying a case of Fat Tire and relieving myself in the hole. Actually got a few laughs and applauds. He just stood there. Most folks in Alabama's paradigm does not even figure beyond the two schools. Just life in the Yellowhammer State.

I find it amusing for those, like me, who couldn't give a rats butt if Alabama or Auburn EVER WIN ANOTHER CONTEST, don't care what field/court they play on. I love it when people ask me, "yeah, I know you're a Troy fan, but who do you REALLY pull for?" I, like Possum, have ONE COLLEGE I "support", T R O Y, that's it! Win, lose, tie or draw, GO TROJANS.
Tell folks you were born and raised in Oklahoma, and YES, there is a small part of my heart that watches the story lines of OU, hell my family still lives there. I have been able, over the years, to spread their knowledge about Troy and " us little guys in general", and they now ALL WEAR Troy gear (of course I paid for it) PROUDLY...
My point is that, like Hemi, embrace those that come/see Troy, and feed them sugar, eventually they, too, will eat at your table, then, YOU GOT EM!!!
GO TROY - FOREVER

On his Twitter page, is Clint saying he is an Alabama football fan or that he is married to an Alabama football fan?
If the former is true, he is disgrace his school, to which he owes his career, paycheck and perhaps even his family.

A disgrace? Y'all are too much.
All you people saying that only people who can support and show up to events at Troy are people that only support Troy 100% are not thinking smartly.
Ask Jimmy Hartwell if he would take another 2,000 fans at basketball games or 10,000 fans at football games supporting the Trojans but who also happen to support another school.

And ask the current baseball coach, the one with the most wins in Troy history if he thinks he is a disgrace or not proud of him or not welcome back at any time.
Also, I would bet y'all wouldn't have the guts to tell Clint to his face what you have said on here. Tell him on his twitter feed what you think of him, if you truly believe it.

Why does SinnerFlorian feel the need to nitpick every post by Possum? Why is he trying to run off a Trojan fan? Guys, there are reasons to support other teams and also be a loyal Troy fan. I am one. I support Troy and FSU UNLESS they are playing each other then...... It's Troy. Then there is no loyalty issue on my part, it's Troy. My lovely daughter went there and my wonderful son-in-law played baseball there so I will support them in their competition when they play and I could care less who understands because I do. I do feel that an alumni's allegiance should be with his university FIRST. As I've said before, they give me FSU gear but I always wear Troy. Now I WILL NOT use their logo or anything like that in place of Troy, I got my Masters degree at UWF but they are no factor even though they have a good baseball program. It bothers me, and I've bought a few friends who are Troy grads, shirts and hats to replace their UF UA gear. I have a friend who played baseball at Troy but got his Masters at UA. I give him grief about wearing UA gear constantly and acknowledging them constantly on Facebook while never mentioning Troy. We just need to help our university every way we can every chance we get.
