I'm curious as to whether we even attempted to recruit the Orlando area or was that just lip service? Haven't heard of any Florida commits other than Pensacola. sFun_DeadHorse

So no opinion matters except what you Alabama people think? Yes, I am from Florida and live in Florida. I also have a lot of teamates with a Nat. championship ring and rings that are from Florida and wonder the same thing. California, Texas and Florida are the top three talent states but I guess we only need to recruit the top left hand city. Good luck trying to build a team from Daleville. Didn't work in D2 and 1-AA, won't work now. sFun_DeadHorse

REAL RECRUITING UPDATE:BIG NEWS. Will need confirmation on this. A.J. Smiley has committed to Troy as of today. He is listed as an Athlete and a Safety. 6'3" 199. Has offers from Nebraska, Marshall, Georgia Southern, and Troy. He is the son of a prominent NFL player I believe. Vic Koenning and Co. will be getting a good one if he signs. He hails from Spain Park High School in Hoover, AL. I believe that's a big time program. I would have posted separately in the recruiting forum, but I believe only Trojan Warrior has access. On a separate note, we finished dead last in the SBC last season in recruiting on 247, and this year we will likely end dead center. That's a huge improvement for a staff that's only had a couple months to recruit. troy.247sports.com/Season/2015-Football/Commits

Since you are a preacher I will refrain from insulting your opinion. Maybe you should act like the preacher you say you are. I didn't give an opinion. Just let the picture state the facts. That is all you talk about whether you are right or not. Whether I agree with you or not. That is what you talk about.
If they had a picture of a broken record I would have posted that.
I am a preacher not a monk. I haven't taken a vow of silence. I am not a stick in the mud. I enjoy having a good time. Lighten up.
In a few days this staff will sign its first class. Two years from now we will be able to say how good this class is. At the end of the day they are 18 yr old mama's boys. It will all depend on how this staff gets them to become men.

247 is showing he may have previously been a Georgia Southern commit. Good catch if the source is correct. Twitter (can't tell if this is him or his dad): twitter.com/asmiley52

I know Georgia State and USA has a ton. Can you confirm Smiley was a Southern commit and was brushed aside for a UAB player? If so, the SBC seems to be putting a lot into the immediate needs plan with these UAB guys. It could backfire. Lots of teams missing out on some good talent. More for us I guess.

I'm presuming he is a walk on? Nonetheless, we have two guys from Orlando that have come on board during Neal's watch. Consider the job done.

One looks to be a UNLV transfer, the other ?? Both from Evans HS. Evans is a decent program. It draws from a really, really rough area in Pine Hills but they have a decent program with a lot of speed. Welcome aboard. The UNLV transfer is a guy that was highly regarded on their message board. He was recruited as a QB to UNLV and was said to be very althletic/slippery, etc. He will play WR for Troy it appears. He's one to keep an eye on as spring and fall ball unfold.

Please tell me he is from the Orlando area so tset can be happy. sFun_DeadHorse sFun_DeadHorse Glad my pastor isn't like you also. I think you take this message board thing a little too serious. You don't have a clue who I am and I don't have a clue who you are. All we really know from our posts is that we love Troy and are passionate about the direction of the program. Just switch the Florida bit up a little. Give us some names, schools, opportunities we might have for a kid not just a location of a state. We get your point or at least I do. I played sports and was in a fraternity so I like to stirthepot sometimes. All in good fun.

I was excited to hear NB state that we would be recruiting Tampa-Orlando. I just have not seen a single offer to anyone east of Pensacola. I do agree that we all want the best for Troy and I just hope we are doing everything we can to be the best. There are good players everywhere but there is probably 10 times the number of good players in Florida than Alabama and that is due to population. Just hope we are looking everywhere. It would not make sense to you if Troy just looked in Montgomery and no where else in Alabama. That is how I feel about Florida. here is to a great signing class and Go Troy.

Well, officially two Florida guys signed. The map I saw showed one, way up in what I consider L.A.
In the meantime, every other school - including all of our competitors, most mid-majors, most G5 and IAAs were all over central and south Florida gobbling up talent in a feeding frenzy. FAU (coming off three wins) stayed primarily between Tampa and Miami and signed the top class in C-USA.
I wish Troy and this class the best, but when Troy was winning titles, it had more Florida players than any other program outside the Sunshine State.
Disappointing. But maybe it was a matter of short time and new coaches, who had to make the best of what they could near home.
