coachingsearch.com/article?a=Neal-Brown-describes-first-3-weeks-as-head-coach-updates-staff-statusLove this quote “I think it’s really a tragedy,” Brown said. “UAB was one of our rivals. I feel for those guys. They had a really good year. Coach Clark and those guys did a really good job. I feel bad for those guys. We’ll end up getting a few of the players. It’ll be a small number. We signed three mid-year guys, all on defense. Our scholarship numbers are low on defense. I think we’ll add a couple UAB kids on the defensive side of the ball. But we want to build our program through high schools, especially the Alabama high schools. We’re going to sign a few of those guys, but it won’t be a ton.”

Four years of this imediate impact crap has been a epic fail.

It also brought about a good portion of the winning. Omar, Levi, Dion Gales, James Brown, Kinlaw, etc. There should be a happy medium, but as long as we are a small school, in a small conference, some chances will have to be taken...absolutely, to a lesser degree than last season's class. jucos are a necessity. Not disagreeing about program-building, just the premise that TROY can do without them in 2014-15 and beyond.

He was a vital component of the 2006 & 2007 conference championships as we're the rest of the talent we brought in. Without his abilities and skill set 2006 wouldn't have been as successful. I agree that we should use juco transfers sparingly but there are some quality players coming out of juco.

JUCOs are a bandaid. Very reliable and great for a quick fix. High school kids are stitches. great for the long term
However, to properly treat a wound, both are needed.

I don't have a problem picking up 2-3 a class but there was way to much emphasizes on them, especially on the defensive side. I think you will see a couple (and I like having the ones that come in Jan. and go through spring as compared to fall. Juco ball, like HS ball is not D1 and you have to learn the schemes that Troy run. Going through spring is a huge, huge advantage, especially when you only have them two years.

... except for the fact that we are breaking ground on the endzone facility at the end of the 15 season. If facilities weren't important do you really think we would be spending $25mill?

... except for the fact that we are breaking ground on the endzone facility at the end of the 15 season. If facilities weren't important do you really think we would be spending $25mill? The answer is somewhere in the middle. Not as important as some think, but still very important. You can win a lot of games without facilities. Some programs have made a name for themselves by winning without having great facilities. Troy has been one of them. You can win without them, but they certainly help in recruiting. If we are to think that recruits don't care about the physical and visual quality of the "home" they will be spending 90% of their time as athletes in, then we are wrong. They absolutely do care.

We set the bar in the Sun Belt when we arrived and started kicking butt and taking names. We forced the hand of our conference mates to get better facilities, coaches, and players. We failed to continue the trend we started.

We have been waiting for this end zone facility for the last few years now. It needs to be built, but I don't see it breaking ground in the next two years.

I hope shovels are turning dirt after this season, but not all plans are implemented on time. Remember, those are just goals, a lot of pieces need to be in place for something this significant to be built, mainly $$$.

We have been waiting for this end zone facility for the last few years now. It needs to be built, but I don't see it breaking ground in the next two years. Most likely at the end of the 15 season. For this to happen, a ton of money probably needs to be raised between now and then. Given John Hartwell's fundraising background, I'm surprised the money hasn't been raised sooner.

Winning and relationship mending...2 things that most likely wouldn't happen without change.
