So who are we getting a game with? Well, considering people will call anything a rivalry nowadays, let's get Abilene Christian back in here for a rematch.

Rumor has it that we play the SCLU Mud Dogs. Since their star player has graduated this should be a easy win.

I heard that it will be Alabama State. That would be a great addition to our schedule. Very winnable game against a SWAC opponent.

I heard that it will be Alabama State. I hope it's not. The last 2 times we've played them, my wife and I had to walk through crowds of "fans" in which there was pushing and shoving, vulgar trash talk and high tension. Both times I've felt as if things could erupt at any second. In fact, the last time it occurred, we were only about 15 ft or so past the center of the crowd when the first punch was thrown. I've never encountered that at any other game and these are the only times I've ever felt unsafe at at TROY game....home or away. I don't enjoy being in situations that require me to keep my head "on a swivel".

Not to mention does Alabama State really believe they should win this game?

I hope it's not. I remember 2006. The ASU fans turned the area around VMS into their own personal ghetto for about 8 hours. If you don't think the University was concerned -- back then I was a student and I remember the Hornets were our season opener and Troy announced before the season they were hiring students to act as security/ patrol for that season. I had some friends and fraternity brothers that signed up and hired to do the job. When the big day arrived I remember seeing the student security guards patrolling Shack quad and other areas while the real campus police hung around the ASU tailgate area near the armory. This didn't seem fishy to me until the next home game when they used less student security guards. Then the next home game came and they used even less students and it got to the point where they contacted next to no students about providing security until most of them quit (my friends included) because they got tired of waiting for Troy to call them for their services. I believe it wasn't even the end of the season when the school was back to just using campus PD without student security period. Looking back that was just the PC way of the University saying they were worried about security and hired students to patrol the frats and direct traffic to free up campus police to tend to the serious matters of monitoring the Alabama State fans.

Hemi, I'm not sure if the judgemental comment was meant for me or not. I assure you, there was no intent to be judgemental on my part. I was simply expressing a desire to not play AL State based on the experiences I have personally had around the stadium and in the tailgating areas the last two times they came to TROY. For one to assess a situation and make a decision about whether or not he wishes to be in a similar situation again isn't being judgemental. That is, in my opinion, responsible decision making. I prefer we not play AL State. If, however, we do, I'll be there.

I hope it's Alabama State or another nearby team that travels well. If we can get 26,000 fans after a 3-9 season I'll be on cloud 9. Remember, we drew that number after a 4-8 season in '05 so anything's possible. We were installing the spread for the first time and whipped them 38-0 in our home opener. We should be installing a more polished version this go around.
